Demand justice for tortured and murdered teens

Chris,

Somalian teenagers Muhamed, 17, and Daud, 15, say they were arrested and kept in shipping containers for a fortnight, before being forced into signing confessions through torture. They suffered electrocutions, genital mutilations, drownings, beatings and being raped – now they face a lifetime in prison.

Call on the Somalian authorities to release Muhamed and Daud immediately, or give them a fair trial: (http://webmail.amnesty.org.uk/_act/link.php?mId=J9189917074817694570428806463918&tId=226591591&subjId=101631)

Act now: demand justice (http://webmail.amnesty.org.uk/_act/link.php?mId=J9189917074817694570428806463918&tId=226591593&subjId=101631)

On 28 December 2016, seven teenage boys were arrested in Bosaso, Puntland, in Northeast Somalia, on suspicion of killing three high-ranking officials serving in the Puntland administration.

The only evidence against them was the ‘confessions’ they’d signed after they say they were subjected to violent torture – electrocution, being burned with cigarettes on their genitals, binding their genital parts together, being drowned in water, being raped and beaten.

No one, especially children, should ever be treated this way. Please join us in holding the Somalian authorities to account for their gross violation of human rights. (http://webmail.amnesty.org.uk/_act/link.php?mId=J9189917074817694570428806463918&tId=226591595&subjId=101631)

In April, five of the seven boys were executed. They were aged between 14 and 17.

The remaining two, previously on death row, have had their sentences commuted to life in prison. They tried to appeal their conviction (on their own as they had no lawyer) but they weren’t allowed to retract the confessions.

As well as demanding that the death penalty be scrapped altogether in Puntland, we're asking that the boys be retried in a civilian – not military – court. They must also be provided the adequate legal support they were unfairly denied the first time around.

Everyone is entitled to a fair trial. Urge the Somalian authorities to grant this to Muhamed and Duad. (http://webmail.amnesty.org.uk/_act/link.php?mId=J9189917074817694570428806463918&tId=226591597&subjId=101631)
