SOLDIER’S REBELLIONS & REVOLUTION
From Viet Nam to the Paris Commune to the Russian Revolution
Capitalism breeds resistance ... and other lessons for today’s struggles
Join us to discuss the newly released book by John Catalinotto, a civilian organizer of the American Servicemen’s Union (ASU), revolutionary activist and editor of Workers World newspaper.
Turn the Guns Around is the story of rank-&-file members of the U.S. Armed Forces throwing a wrench into the Pentagon’s war machine by organizing the ASU during the U.S. war in Vietnam.
It is also a story of three other wars:
The Franco-Prussian War that sparked the Paris Commune;
World War 1, which sowed revolutions in Germany and Russia;
and the wars of liberation in Africa that sparked a captains’ revolt in Portugal.
In each case, troops turned their guns around.
In the present period of reaction, it is difficult to imagine the undoing of the powerful capitalist state, but Catalinotto shows how social and economic crises will lead to its disintegration, and how social revolution lies embedded in the very structure of imperialism and its insatiable drive for conquest.
