I'm Heidi Levin, a member of the Jewish Voice for Peace-Chicago Coordinating Committee. One of the things I most admire about Jewish Voice for Peace is our commitment to taking on what tend to be the "elephants in the room" even for progressive Jewish communities, including our proud support of the Palestinian-led movement for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (http://jewishvoiceforpeace.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=44fda0b60aa5102296294048f&id=15b1fb5594&e=079ae7db83).
Here are two other "elephants," even within many progressive Jewish communities: the support that mainstream Jewish institutions like the Jewish United Fund of Metropolitan Chicago (JUF) are giving to the most vile anti-Muslim and anti-Arab organizations, and the moral imperative to support the Palestinian Right of Return and wrestle seriously with its practical implementation.
DEFUND ISLAMOPHOBIA CAMPAIGN
Last week, Jewish Voice for Peace-Chicago and the JVP Network Against Islamophobia released this report (http://jewishvoiceforpeace.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=44fda0b60aa5102296294048f&id=73d6e0fd67&e=079ae7db83) detailing the JUF's funneling of nearly $1 million to anti-Muslim hate groups from 2011-2014. We went to the JUF office to confront their staff directly about our report, watch here (http://jewishvoiceforpeace.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=44fda0b60aa5102296294048f&id=b63f700e94&e=079ae7db83) and check out the pictures (http://jewishvoiceforpeace.us3.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=44fda0b60aa5102296294048f&id=bf1b2b2f24&e=079ae7db83)!
We also emailed the report to over 400 JUF contacts, to make sure that the Chicago-area Jewish community knows about the contributions that JUF is making in our name. Sign the petition (http://jewishvoiceforpeace.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=44fda0b60aa5102296294048f&id=0d980aab03&e=079ae7db83) telling the JUF to quit supporting anti-Muslim hate. We'll follow up with you as we continue building the campaign!

We're proud to be co-sponsoring with the US Palestinian Community Network and Students for Justice in Palestine.
