Free Yazmin: Survivor of Domestic Violence and Mother of 3 Teens
Immigrant Youth Coalition (IYC)
Dear Chris,

We need your help to support Yazmin Elias Obregon, a mother of three teenage boys, a domestic violence survivor who has been in ICE custody for over a year now!
Last year during her bond hearing the government attorney took a very aggressive stance when questioning Yazmin that further traumatized and incriminated her past experiences as a single mother dealing with domestic violence. After raising our concerns about this situation with the Office of Chief Counsel, we have yet to receive response as to how the office will hold their staff accountable to criminalizing a mother who has survived over 20 years of domestic violence.
This week, we submitted yet another letter in behalf of 27 domestic violence agencies furthering our serious concerns about the criminalization of victims of domestic violence in the court system. The Office of Chief Counsel has the power to pressure ICE to release Yazmin. To further this effort, just yesterday we launched an online petition in support of Yazmin urging her ICE officer and the Office of Chief Counsel to release her and allow her to continue her recovery with the support of her family and her community. Her three children- Jeremiah, Isaiah and Elijah – suffer currently from PTSD, ADHD, and depression. After years of improvement thanks to their treatment, Yazmin’s children are now regressing due to their suffering from their mother’s detention.
TAKE ACTION today by signing the petition and sharing it on social media-- you can sign petition HERE (http://org2.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=VGgebFpUs5KPFIoZhPMxfamdyFA5lVcY)
