Chris,

Mohamed Cheikh Ould Mkhaitir could be executed for exercising his freedom of expression.

In 2012, Mohamed was arrested and imprisoned for writing an article about the use of religion in order to justify racial and social discrimination in Mauritania. He was sentenced to death for apostasy.

This sentence is a direct violation of Mohamed's international human right to freedom of expression. We must gather as many signatures as we can to show the officials in Mauritania that the international community is watching. (http://www.care2.com/go/z/e/AxF6L/zSkl/t8hl)

Earlier this month, Mohamed's appeal made its way all the way to the Supreme Court of Mauritania, only to be shot back down to the same appeals court that previously upheld his death sentence. This is a gross miscarriage of justice that must be rectified.

Please add your name to the petition right now to help save Mohamed's life. Mohamed doesn't deserve to die for exercising his right to freedom of expression. (http://www.care2.com/go/z/e/AxF6L/zSkl/t8hl)

Since its independence in 1960, Mauritania has never carried out an execution for apostasy. We can't let Mohamed be the first. In fact, the death penalty for apostasy should not be law in the first place.

There is a chance that we can save Mohamed from this terrible fate, but only if we act immediately and bring this petition all the way to the top. Sign the petition urging the President of Mauritania to commute Mohamed's sentence immediately. (http://www.care2.com/go/z/e/AxF6L/zSkl/t8hl)

Thank you,

Alex B.

The last human rights activist of UAE jailed for his blog View email online (http://webmail.amnesty.org.uk/_act/link.php?mId=J9189917074817588843428806464418&tId=225200393)

Hi Chris,

Ahmed Mansoor was the last human rights activist working freely in the United Arab Emirates – until a fortnight ago, when security forces stormed his home in the middle of the night. He was arrested and thrown in jail. His crime? Standing up for rights.

We cannot let Ahmed suffer in silence. Will you help call for his urgent release?

Add your voice (http://webmail.amnesty.org.uk/_act/link.php?mId=J9189917074817588843428806464418&tId=225200399)

Ahmed Mansoor was at home when, at midnight on 20 March, twelve members of the state security forces burst in. They searched his house, confiscated his family’s phones and other electronic devices – and took Ahmed away with them. Ahmed and his family didn’t know what was going on. His wife and children had no idea where he was for over a week.

Call for Ahmed’s freedom now (http://webmail.amnesty.org.uk/_act/link.php?mId=J9189917074817588843428806464418&tId=225200402)

The week after his arrest, authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) confirmed that they had charged Ahmed with ‘cybercrimes’ and revealed that he is jailed in an Abu Dhabi prison. Ahmed still hasn’t been able to contact his family directly to confirm this.

Ahmed is an award-winning blogger and regularly posts about human rights issues in the UAE on social media. For that, he has been charged with ‘promoting false and shaded information through the Internet and serving agendas aimed at spreading hatred and sectarianism’.

This shouldn’t be an offense – but the UAE authorities are notorious for unfairly punishing people like Ahmed who speak up for citizens’ rights. Ahmed has committed no crime. Call for his freedom now.

Stand with Ahmed – call for his release (http://webmail.amnesty.org.uk/_act/link.php?mId=J9189917074817588843428806464418&tId=225200405)

Until his arrest, Ahmed was the last person in the UAE working openly to stand up for human rights in the country. For this, he had endured years of harassment from state officials. Over the years, he has worked closely with Amnesty and the UN to report on the state of rights in the UAE. We need to ensure that his voice isn’t silenced.

Please call on the UAE to free Ahmed now (http://webmail.amnesty.org.uk/_act/link.php?mId=J9189917074817588843428806464418&tId=225200411)

Tell UAE: Release activist arrested for speaking out on social media

A year ago, Ahmed Mansoor's iPhone was targeted with elite spyware only sold to governments. This was an attempt to turn it into a tracking device, to find out who his contacts are and where he was going. Now Ahmed -- an award-winning human rights defender and blogger -- is in jail for expressing himself online. Join us and our friends at Amnesty International in calling on the United Arab Emirates government to release Ahmed immediately and unconditionally.
