Physicists at Harvard have produced hydrogen metal by subjecting hydrogen gas to an enormous increase of pressure (at pressures higher than at the center of the earth.)
The existence of hydrogen as a metal has been theoretically known since around the 1930. A change in quantity (pressure) produces a change in quality - from gas to metal.
