I was wondering, since most of his work seems to be based on what happened here in the US (the industrial revolution and such), did he ever actually come to the US?

Actually, most of his economic work was based on material gathered in England that was mostly about England.
But I believe he did consider moving to the United States during the 1850s.
Engels did spend several months on a speaking tour in the United States sometime in the 1880s, I think.
