UNBELIEVABLE: 8 out of 9 tech companies wont rule out helping Trump build a national Muslim registry.

Tell tech companies: Publicly refuse to build Trump's Muslim registry now!

Chris, Its unbelievable.

Journalists reached out to nine major tech companies asking if they would help the Trump administration build a national Muslim registry, and only Twitter said no!1

We trust these companies with our most valuable information and they say their main priority is to protect their users.

But if major tech companies are serious about protecting users, they must not facilitate violations of human rights or dignity by providing the technology or data to make it happen.

Tell tech companies: Publicly refuse to build Trump's Muslim registry now! (http://act.demandprogress.org/sign/tell-tech-companies-publicly-refuse-build-trumps-muslim-registry-now/?source=demandprogress&t=3&akid=4974.610737.j7byVm)

As someone who's not concerned about comparisons to Hitler or critical of WWII internment camps,2 Trump's threat to build a national registry of Muslims is not a joke.

And Kris Kobach, Trumps immigration adviser who wrote the book on tracking Muslims,3 recently reiterated the administrations desire to build a Muslim registry.4

Plus, tech companies have secretly assisted governments commit human rights abuses in the past: IBM provided Nazi Germany with their computerized punch card systems used to track Jews, AND created a computerized national ID system that the South African government used to denationalize its black population.5

Not helping build a database to track Americas Muslims should be a clear moral redline. But its clear from these companies muted response that we need to mount a public outcry to call out their cowardice and demand they stand up to Trump.

Aside from the moral repugnancy of Trumps plan, creating a Muslim registry wont make anyone safer.

George W. Bush created a defunct program called NSEERS that never resulted in a single terrorism conviction.

All a national Muslim registry would do is reinforce a false, Islamophobic stereotype that only Muslims are terrorists, while providing recruiting material for Americas enemies abroad.

But to stop Trumps reprehensible plan, tech companies need to make clear NOW that they wont ever collaborate with Trump on creating a national Muslim registry.

what tech companies?
for example, I don't think windows asks anyone their religion when they sell their programs.

"We trust these companies with our most valuable information". O rly?

this thing is so vague, it could be just as much of a self-registry trap for [internet] "activists".

Muslim registry: We can't let this happen again. (video)

Dear MoveOn member,

The last time the U.S. tried to implement a registry targeting Muslims, Kamal Essaheb, who is currently the Director of Policy and Advocacy at the National Immigration Law Center, was almost deported. Now, after a vicious Islamophobic campaign in which Donald Trump said he'd "absolutely" require Muslims in America to register in a database, one of his top advisors on homeland security, Kris Kobach, may be trying to implement this registry once again.1,2

Click here to watch and share Kamal's story on Facebook now. (https://act.moveon.org/go/7101?t=1&akid=174573.7761820.8qGPBU) (Or scroll down for the Youtube link.)

As it stands right now, if Donald Trump decides to start a registry program targeting Muslims, he doesn't have to start from scratch. The infrastructure from a Bush-era program called the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System (NSEERS) still exists and can be reactivated almost immediately. But President Obama has the ability to act now and dismantle NSEERS once and for all, which would force Trump to move slowly with his own schemes while facing public resistance.3

But President Obama's time to act is running out. That's why we can't wait.

On Monday, MoveOn members of all backgrounds are hitting the streets with Muslim leaders and allies in Washington, D.C., to call on President Obama to prevent Trump's Muslim registry and shut down NSEERS. And there are well over 120,000 signatures on our petition calling for the president to act.

Can you watch and share Kamal's story so more people know why we can't let a Muslim registry happen? (https://act.moveon.org/go/7101?t=3&akid=174573.7761820.8qGPBU)

When NSEERS was implemented the last time, 83,000 immigrant men from Muslim-majority countries were registered and 13,000 of them were put into deportation proceedings. Out of all the registrations and deportations, no one was ever connected to any violent activity.4

Kamal's story is about just one of the 83,000 men who were impacted, whose lives and communities were changed. There are tens of thousands more we may never be able to hear from directly.

Let's heed Kamal's warning: We can't let this happen again.
