The water protectors in Standing Rock are calling for an emergency global day of action tomorrow, December 1 — please join us in Chicago (http://us.greenpeace.org/site/R?i=HYryQx7hFmORdLM1W7yEFg).

Last week militarized police escalated their use of force on the water protectors at Standing Rock working to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline in North Dakota. On November 20, over 300 injuries — some critical — were reported by camp medics as police used tear gas, rubber bullets, concussion grenades, and sprayed water cannons on people in sub-freezing temperatures for several hours.

The Camp of the Sacred Stones and Red Warrior Camp, currently defending against the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline, are calling on allies across the world to take action on the financial institutions funding the pipeline. Greenpeace is responding with a coordinated effort to pressure Citibank, one of the top lenders of the project.

RSVP to join Greenpeace at Chicago Citibank tomorrow! (http://us.greenpeace.org/site/R?i=t1oECkMjgDbVFOJLIPAbQg)

What: Citibank Branch Visits
When: Thursday, December 1
Time: Any time between 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
Where: 539 N Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60611

When you arrive, you’ll find Greenpeace representatives will be outside handing flyers to Citibank customers. Let them know that you’re there to take action to stand in solidarity with Standing Rock water protectors and they will give you everything you need to speak directly to Citibank management about cutting off funding to the pipeline.

Some banks and financial institutions are already questioning their investments in the pipeline. It’s time to harness the power of our large global network — including you — to hit the pipeline where it hurts the most, its funding sources.

As a primary lender to the project, Citibank, with other financiers, are holding on the remaining $1.4 billion that is needed to complete the pipeline. They can only release the remaining funds once the final permits are approved. We want Citibank to feel public scrutiny for their involvement in the pipeline and back out out altogether.

If they do, this would be devastating to Energy Transfer Partners and the other companies behind the pipeline.

Please RSVP to join us tomorrow in solidarity with Standing Rock to demand that Citibank cut its funding to the Dakota Access Pipeline. (http://us.greenpeace.org/site/R?i=EmgmzfVPG1Ra-Kr2J0I3ew)

Thanks for all you do,
