View Full Version : Socialist Party of Michigan to seek ballot access

Greetings,

The Socialist Party of Michigan recently voted to aggressively seek ballot access in the State of Michigan. Michigan requires a minimum of 31,776 signatures within a 180 day period with at least 100 signatures each from 8 of its 15 Congressional Districts.

To this end, we call on everyone who embraces democracy and electoral choice to volunteer and help in our goal of collecting close to 60,000 signatures by 4:00 PM on July 15, 2004, which is the deadline.

We would like to run our candidates for national, state and local offices under our own Socialist Party banner without relying on the Green Party's kindness in using their ballot access or resorting to runs as independents or as write-ins. Electoral reform is absolutely necessary to ensure all parties are given equal access and all voters are given free choice. Support this cause by helping us get on the ballot in 2004.

Lisa Weltman, a member of the Detroit Socialist Party, is organizing this effort as convener of our Election Committee. If you would like to volunteer, donate or help in any fashion, please e-mail me at [email protected] and/or Lisa at [email protected]

We should have an election website up and running in the next couple weeks at http://www.michigansocialist.net.

Thank you!

In solidarity,
Joe DeNeen
