How does it compare to anarcho-syndicalism?

If you're feeling generous you might say its what Labour party propagandist G. D. H. Cole (and R. H. Tawney) was in favour of. Presumably you've looked at the entry on Wikipedia? I think there was an article in The Idler more recently. Maybe this one

In addition to G.D.H. Cole and R.H. Tawney you may want to look into the works of S.G. Hobson, particularly National Guilds: an Inquiry into the Wage System and a Way Out.
Another guild socialist was Arthur Penty, although if I recall correctly he was more of a medievalist and was perhaps closer to Catholic thinkers like Hilaire Belloc and G.K. Chesterton who supported a system know as Distributism.
Cole and Hobson were probably closer to syndicalism than Distributism so you would want to start with them I think.
