All Out For October 22nd National Day of Protest to Stop Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation

Chris --

The Stop Mass Incarceration Networks calls on everyone to support and be part of the annual October 22 protests against police brutality, repression, and the criminalization of a generation. In the face of an intolerable situation in which police murder unarmed youth of color yet continue to go free... in which millions more continue to be sent off to prison, and in this way disproportionately affects the Black, Latino, Native American and other oppressed communities... and in which increasing repression in all aspects of life has been intensified by the Obama regime, with both Trump AND Clinton promising worse... this resistance must grow to include ALL segments of society, and it MUST BE STOPPED!

Here is a growing list (http://www.stoppoliceterror.org/r?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fnotes%2Foctob er-22-coalition-to-stop-police-brutality-new-york%2Flist-of-actions-for-21st-national-day-of-protest-to-stop-police-brutality-repres%2F10154645496467451&e=4160b7d4c80bd7ff2829463c3b9e0a03&utm_source=riseupoctober&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=all_out_for_o22&n=1) of actions that will take place that day. Call from Gloria Pinex—Mother of Darius Pinex, Murdered by Chicago Police, January 2011

Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired of:
Murder by Police.
Stomped (on), Framed,
Being Controlled,
Seeing Our Babies Dying to This System,
No More Telling Us Who to Vote For

For the last 5 years I have struggled with my son’s death by police. Darius was murdered by the CPD. I have had a long fight for justice for me and my family. As I fought I learned no police officer will face any time in jail because they are protected by this system.

The reason I am standing up and calling on you to join me is because this has to stop! There are far more innocent people being murdered out here on these streets and around the country by—cops. The system has no future for us. We need a change. 1134 people were killed by police last year alone.

BE THERE! OCTOBER 22nd, 1PM: WATER TOWER PARK, 820 NORTH MICHIGAN

Throughout the Black Lives Matter movement, nonviolent protesters have been bombarded with armed tanks, rubber bullets, and grenade launchers containing toxic tear gas.

As we witnessed in Ferguson, Baltimore, Charlotte and elsewhere, peaceful demonstrations for racial justice and police accountability have been routinely met with large trucks of law enforcement officers dressed and armed for war-like combat.

The utilization of military equipment and tactics in local police departments fuels the widespread mentality that law enforcement officers, meant to protect and serve, are mere combatants in black and brown communities.

Click here to sign a petition opposing "the transfer of military equipment to local U.S. police departments.” (http://salsa.wiredforchange.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=Uvhfje03tUXEp9f59kDACcrm0Z6%2BIARA)

Police do not typically address white protesters in the same manner.

Consider the sharp contrast between these two events on the same weekend:

* The historically racist Ku Klux Klan organized a nonviolent rally on Saturday, September 24th, 2016 at the city center of Madison, Indiana. Met with anti-racist college protesters upon arrival, the KKK immediately called the Madison Police Department for protection throughout their demonstration. Law enforcement officers arrived in their normal squad vehicles, with their normal blue uniforms, and their traditional weaponry of a baton and a single handgun. The crowd, including the KKK members as well as the college protesters, was mostly white.

* Law enforcement officers in Charlotte, North Carolina met the Black Lives Matter protesters with rubber bullets, tear gas, and a large number of arrests. Eighty-two protesters have been arrested since the Charlotte uprising began, charged with the crime of “disturbing the peace.” BLM activists in Charlotte are protesting against the unjust killing of disabled father Keith Lamont Scott by a black police officer.

To help end the militarization of police forces, click here. (http://salsa.wiredforchange.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=Yu%2BLroMcfz9mW7RhTeZFVMrm0Z6%2BIARA)

The federal government continues to give millions of dollars worth of military equipment to police departments that are over-policing, over-incarcerating and killing black and brown people, often with apparent impunity. It is imperative that Defense Secretary Ashton Carter suspend the 1033 Weapons Transfer Program that authorizes the transfer of military weapons to police departments and law enforcement officers.

Carl Dix in Chicago:
Join me in the streets!

Friends,

As the co-founder of the Stop Mass Incarceration Network, I am glad to have the opportunity to communicate directly with you. I am writing to let you know that I am in Chicago as part of the National Get Into the Revolution Tour which is setting out to go across the country organizing thousands into an actual revolution, on that overthrows this system and replaces it with a totally different and far better system. This is a crucial time. A time when the horrors being enforced on humanity are intensifying and a time when the country is having a presidential election presenting a choice between a fascist blowhard and a proven war criminal. This underscores the message of our tour: America Was Never Great; We Need to Overthrow, Not Vote for, This System. And it makes the mission of this tour, to organize thousands of people into the revolution right now and to develop them into tested leaders who will be in position to lead millions in going all out for revolution when the time comes.

Press Conference Oct 25: Cops Attack Oct 22 Protest Against Police Brutality- Restraining Order Sought Against CPD for Oct 29th

Press release
Contact: 773-329-5014
email: jessi[email protected]

WHAT: Press conference
WHERE: City Hall (5th floor in front of Rahm Emanuel’s office)
WHEN: Tuesday, October 25, 11 am

On October 22, at the 21st Annual National Day of Protest against Police Brutality, Noche Diaz from the Revolution Club and 3 other Revcoms were arrested during a vicious attack on a peaceful march despite having a permit to march in the street on Michigan Avenue. The permit had been enlarged to poster size for the benefit of the police. In addition, the application for the permit specifically said there would be no animals participating in the march, yet there were dozens of pigs allowed to be there!

On Tuesday, October 25 at 11 am, the Revcoms and other community representatives are going to City Hall to put the Mayor and the Chicago Police Department on notice that they will seek a restraining order against the CPD and the City to keep these hands off another downtown rally called for Saturday, October 29.* The rally is part of a “Get into the Revolution National Tour” which is going around the country organizing people to overthrow, don’t vote for, this system. Noche Diaz is part of this tour which also helped call and lead the demonstration on October 22nd.

Despite the attacks and arrests, the revolutionaries are determined to get the tour’s message out to everyone who is agonizing about the state of the world. They are especially taking the tour’s message and challenge to those on the bottom of society in communities in Chicago. They are also reaching out to students on college campuses.

The rally on October 29 will be held in Grant Park at 1pm at Congress and Michigan – a central location chosen so that people from all over the city can come together – especially people from neighborhoods where people have been divided against each other and violence has been engendered and fomented by THIS SYSTEM – and hear the message of the tour about how to get out of this madness and fight the real enemy – “we need an actual revolution.”

* There is more than enough evidence for this restraining order against these notorious racist murderers of Black and Brown people -- these cover-it-up with a code of silence while burying evidence – these permit shredders – also known as the Chicago Police Department. Videos and photos show the vicious attack on the Oct 22 march, knocking people down and grabbing and trying to rip the lead banner which, ironically, says Stop Police Murder and Terror! This banner is filled with pictures of people murdered by police, and the police hate it as witnessed by this and previous attempts to destroy it. The Oct 22 march included family members of people killed by police, a man tortured by CPD as a teenager and then wrongfully convicted and sent away to prison for years, activists who are currently being prosecuted for what? – protesting police brutality!!! It can be amply demonstrated that the CPD has an animus to the revcoms as uncovered in their own documents in previous court cases of protesters.

U of Chicago Police Viciously Assaulted & Arrested Revolutionaries On Campus YESTERDAY, Don't Stand By!

Dear Friends,

I'm writing to ask you to take an urgent, vocal and public stand against an outrageous act of repression and political suppression that took place today.

“America Was NEVER Great! We Need to Overthrow, Not Vote for, This System!” This was the message being delivered by Noche Diaz, of the Get Into the Revolution National Organizing Tour, moments before he was violently assaulted and arrested by University of Chicago Police as he was peacefully leaving Campus North Residential Commons. Police assaulted others from the Revolution Club, sending one young woman to the hospital.

This is the second attack by the Chicago police on this National Tour, and on Noche, in five days. For more details of what happened, and for pictures and video, go HERE (http://www.revcom.us/a/462/U-of-Chicago-Police-Viciously-Assaulted-Arrested-Revolutionaries-en.html).

This is an attempt to suppress the message about the true nature of America, the character of this election, and what actually has to be done—a revolution—and a tour to ORGANIZE PEOPLE around this message. This police attack on people bringing the message of revolution to campus was intended to keep this message, this analysis, this solution from students—preventing any critical discourse, consideration, and yes activation towards a whole other way the world could be.
Nobody should tolerate this.

If you are outraged by what is happening in the world, if you agonize about the future, then you need to raise your voice to DEMAND that the Get Into the Revolution National Organizing Tour (http://www.revcom.us/a/458/get-into-the-revolution-national-organizing-tour-en.html) be allowed on the University of Chicago campus, that the charges against Noche Diaz be dropped, and that the university take responsibility for any injuries sustained by people bring this message of revolution to the campus.

Make these demands heard on social media—tweet the article about this from revcom.us (http://www.revcom.us/a/462/U-of-Chicago-Police-Viciously-Assaulted-Arrested-Revolutionaries-en.html), post the pictures and videos. This needs to be made a BIG DEAL in society. Everyone should add their voices and make clear the reactionary attack on revolutionaries is UNACCEPTABLE.
Email the President of the University of Chicago with these concrete and specific demands.

Robert J. Zimmer, The University of Chicago
[email protected]

Call Chicago Police Department at 51st and Wentworth to demand the charges against Noche Diaz be dropped, 312.747.8366
Contribute funds HERE (https://www.crowdrise.com/get-into-the-revolution-tour/fundraiser/debrasweet) for the Get With The Revolution Tour to continue and maximize its reach. Funds are needed for legal fees, travel, materials—all the kinds of ways for this to reach out even further in the face of these attacks. Get in touch with the Tour at 312.502.7485 or [email protected] spread this crowdrise site everywhere you can: https://www.crowdrise.com/get-into-the-revolution-tour/fundraiser/debrasweet

Please write or call me with your ideas on how this can be made known all across the country. Don't stand by!

Carl Dix: Defy Campus Arrests of Revolutionaries

Chris --

We received this from Carl Dix of the Revolutionary Communist Party, and co-founder of the Stop Mass Incarceration Network

Dear friends,

Defy Suppression of Free Speech Rights for Revolutionaries on College Campuses

Revolution Club Members Arrested on College Campuses in Chicago & NYC

On October 26, campus police at the University of Chicago arrested Revolution Club leader, Noche Diaz, and beat another member of the club (http://www.stoppoliceterror.org/r?u=http%3A%2F%2Fsable.madmimi.com%2Fc%2F18987%3Fi d%3D214073.6239.1.c3ef45354c073757f8be380ae1bb95b1&e=4160b7d4c80bd7ff2829463c3b9e0a03&utm_source=riseupoctober&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=ccny_uc&n=1) so bad she had to go to the hospital. His crime? While Secretary of State John Kerry was welcomed on campus, Noche and the Revoluton Club were calling out the crimes of this system, the U.S.' wars and drone strikes on civilians in the Middle East, the violence and degradation of women, the attacks on immigrants, the destruction of the environment—and he was challenging students to get into THE NEW COMMUNISM (http://www.stoppoliceterror.org/r?u=http%3A%2F%2Fsable.madmimi.com%2Fc%2F18987%3Fi d%3D214073.6240.1.a93a1099fdb2856b6f4d68ed611e7fe3&e=4160b7d4c80bd7ff2829463c3b9e0a03&utm_source=riseupoctober&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=ccny_uc&n=2) that has been brought forward by Bob Avakian, into the revolution that can emancipate all of humanity.

VIDEO: Noche speaks on why he was arrested, as he's taken to Chicago lock-up

The university has banned Noche from campus under threat of being arrested if he sets foot there. Two days later, 4 members of the Revolution Club were arrested by campus police at the City college of New York (http://www.stoppoliceterror.org/r?u=http%3A%2F%2Fsable.madmimi.com%2Fc%2F18987%3Fi d%3D214073.6242.1.6b652b98eb666023acc66ac07ec44221&e=4160b7d4c80bd7ff2829463c3b9e0a03&utm_source=riseupoctober&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=ccny_uc&n=4). Their crime? Bringing to students the message: “America was NEVER Great! We Need to Overthrow, Not Vote for, the System (http://www.stoppoliceterror.org/r?u=http%3A%2F%2Fsable.madmimi.com%2Fc%2F18987%3Fi d%3D214073.6243.1.9124dc6e2243ebe22870d7de414ea43a&e=4160b7d4c80bd7ff2829463c3b9e0a03&utm_source=riseupoctober&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=ccny_uc&n=5),” distributing the pamphlet, “How We Can Win—How We Can Really Make Revolution (http://www.stoppoliceterror.org/r?u=http%3A%2F%2Fsable.madmimi.com%2Fc%2F18987%3Fi d%3D214073.6244.1.930b68beef489ef13816af7833061274&e=4160b7d4c80bd7ff2829463c3b9e0a03&utm_source=riseupoctober&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=ccny_uc&n=6),” and organizing people into an actual revolution.

These arrests come down to attempts to ban the message about the true nature of America, the character of this election, and what actually has to be done—a revolution. This police attack on people bringing the message of revolution to campus was intended to keep this message, this analysis, this solution from students—preventing any critical discourse, consideration, and yes activation towards a whole other way the world could be.

And it will not succeed. The revolutionaries are rallying others to join us in going back to both of these universities this week to declare that this message must not be suppressed.

Don't stand by and let this go down! Here are things I'm asking each of you to do:

If you are in Chicago, join Noche at the rally there. If you are in NYC, join the Revolution Club at both campuses this week:

Tuesday, November 1 3:00 pm University of Chicago

Exact location to be announced at revcom.us
Noche Diaz will return to the campus, defying the ban. He will be joined by professors, students and others who refuse to stand by and allow this suppression of the right to free speech to stand.

Thursday, November 3 at 12:00 pm City College NYC

North Academic Center (NAC) Building, Convent Ave. off 138th Street
(#1 to 137th Street; A, C, B to 135th Street) Facebook Event (http://www.stoppoliceterror.org/r?u=http%3A%2F%2Fsable.madmimi.com%2Fc%2F18987%3Fi d%3D214073.6245.1.d9b1177c1ae8d43d010e2fc2c89e41ad&e=4160b7d4c80bd7ff2829463c3b9e0a03&utm_source=riseupoctober&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=ccny_uc&n=7)
The Revolution Club—and others―will be back on campus and you must be there—to hear what the university—backed by its campus police—is trying to suppress, and to have their backs.

From Edward Asner:

Dear President Zimmer,

Are the University of Chicago police now acting as representatives of the city of Chicago? Freedom of speech, a basis of the United States and customarily universities, broadens that principle even more. As a former University of Chicago student, I protest the mauling of Noche Diaz and the young girl who was punched.

What's wrong with the University of Chicago President Zimmer? Has it been Trumpized? To habitually roust Noche Diaz and others is a crime as you are betraying the ideals of what a university should be. Drop the charges against Noche Diaz. Don't cheapen or betray the University of Chicago image!

From Rev. Peter Goodwin Heltzel, Ph.D.:

"I stand with my friend and fellow New Yorker Noche Diaz who was arrested and beaten by Chicago police! He has a right to free speech and should be treated with respect. Together we can work for an equitable, safe and sustainable world."
