Sorry to go back to the topic of sex workers again, as last time it caused a great deal of controversy on the forums, but sex workers are workers.
So here is a great movie recently made on their plight in Myanmar by Gayle Ferrai,
Rob Nelson did a decent review of it at www.motherjones.com/arts/film/2004/01/12_102.html
Has anyone else seen this movie? Contains interviews regarding slavery network and kidnappings into China where girls are secretly used as human hosts for leeches for market when not used for sex. Kept in cells with numbers for customers. Also covers some info. on the pipeline, the Americans aren't much better in their use of the girls, just pay them better.
Myarmar is interesting, conditions with it's government almost seem a little better than Thailand for the girls, but still bad. A great deal of rape, stealing and selling of human beings.
May there be a time when people realize working conditions for all workers need to be made better, and that people to not differentiate sexual workers in such a way as to make them feel less than human.
