Let's celebrate local abortion access wins while we wait for SCOTUS...

As we await the Supreme Court decision on the biggest abortion rights case in decades, it’s important that we celebrate the victories we’re seeing at the local level across the United States. We’re thrilled to see abortion access being protected against attacks on the West Coast this week.
In California, the Obama Administration upheld our rights and dismissed a “right of conscience” complaint from anti-abortion groups who objected to the state’s requirement that health insurance plans include coverage for abortions. All insurance plans in the state of California will continue to cover abortion.
In Washington, a state court judge affirmed state law mandating abortion access on-site in all public hospitals that offer maternity services.
In both cases, there’s a strong directive that says, while individuals may opt out of providing abortions, entire healthcare systems may not opt out of providing critical, compassionate abortion care. These decisions affirm that people need access to the full spectrum of reproductive health care.
We know that it is a moral imperative to offer accessible, affordable abortion as a reproductive option; that’s why we’ll continue to work toward and champion expanded abortion access across our network. We all deserve strong legal protections for our abortion rights.
