Working Link to Trotsky Film Project; Please Support the Kickstarter Campaign!
[Please circulate this appeal widely. To subscribe / unsubscribe, contact [email protected]]
Dear Friends,
For reasons I cannot understand, the link that I sent out yesterday to the Trotsky film kickstarter website did not work. I received dozens of messages from people who want to donate funds to the campaign, but could not do so. The link directs to you a very moving 2 1/2 minute trailer of the film and to a funding window.
I have now double-checked, and the link below works:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/trotskyproject/the-most-dangerous-man-in-the-world
Filmmaker Lindy Laub has written to supporters of the film to underscore the urgency of this fund drive. She writes:
"On May Day we launched our Kickstarter campaign for the documentary about Leon Trotsky called The Most Dangerous Man in the World.
"In the last two weeks, we've received $32,000+, reaching over 80% of our goal from 207 donors! Kickstarter has named us "Projects We Love" and that's helping, too. You could help take it to the finish.
"The way Kickstarter works is that we must make our goal of $40,000 by May 30. If we don't all the money goes back to the donors! If you can't afford a contribution, you can help a lot by forwarding this info to anyone you think might be interested. We are so excited about getting this film to the screen for the 100th Anniversary of the Russian Revolution."
I, too, would like to urge you to please make a contribution to this film. A few years ago, I joined Suzi Weissman and Lindy Laub at the Trotsky Museum in Mexico City at a conference to build support for the Museum. Its funding from the Mexican government was being threatened, and we had to show strong internationalist support to keep the Museum open -- which we did. The funding was not suspended. At the event, we all saw a longer, 20-minute trailer of the Trotsky film. It was very powerful. Esteban "Seva" Volkov, Trotsky's grandson, was visibly moved by the trailer and gave a heart-felt speech in which he called on all supporters of the Museum the world over to please help fund the Trotsky film.
Please heed the call from Seva and the filmmakers; make a contribution today!
Many thanks,
Alan Benjamin
