this is the catholic worker's symbol thing....

Catholic Worker is an anarchist organisation with catholic religious roots.

The Catholic Worker Movement, founded by Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin in 1933, is grounded in a firm belief in the God-given dignity of every human person

I first read the Catholic Worker this January when I was staying at the Kirkridge retreat center in Pennsylvania for a Fellowship of Reconcilliation Peacemaker Training Institute. I enjoy it.

The first image was from the great Mexican artist Jose Clemente Orozco, as is the one I'm contributing.

This one...well, I don't pretend to know what is going on in it:

Orozco painted another image of Jesus Christ chopping down the cross with an axe...the other is much cooler showing him reaching back, in the process of striking the blow--10 points to anyone who can find it.

That's the one! It seems I don't have 10 points on me, however...ask again after the end of next week.

Why does that guy have both a hammer & sickle and swastika on him?

Soviet propaganda has some really cool anti-religious stuff, maybe ill scan some of it in later. There's an art exhibit going around with all the Soviet anti-religious propaganda called Godless at the Workbench.

He's saying that despots are all the same, regardless of what symbol represents them--a swatstika, cross, red star, red flag, or sickle and hammer have all been symbols of people doing horrible things under the words of altruism.
