Thursday APRIL 21 -- Which Side Are You On?
Support National Day of Student Action to STOP Police Terror

A Call has been issued for a National Day of Student Action to STOP Police Terror on April 21 by students at San Francisco State University.

This call is supported by Carl Dix, Dr. Cornel West, and Grammy-Award winning musician Arturo O'Farrill. Join them in endorsing this action.

On this day, there will be walkouts, protests and other manifestations of powerful action to **stop the terror police are enforcing that disproportionately targets Black and Latino people**.

Police are still getting away with murder. As of March 15, police in this country have killed 213 people. That's almost 3 people each and every day. Yet murdering cops or jail guards still almost always go free. There is no middle ground in this fight against injustice. You are either on the side of fighting to STOP police terror, or you're on the side of saying it's OK for it to continue being enforced. Which Side Are You On?

Now, as things in this society are being sharply polarized as a fascist movement is being pumped up, and as people are mobilizing to stand up in opposition to this ugly crap; is the time for powerful action to STOP these horrors. On April 21, students will powerfully join the movement to STOP police terror with their Call for a National Day of Student Action. This isn't just something for Black, Latino and other oppressed people wUCLA_students_Kailey_Richovd.jpgho are disproportionately targeted by brutal, murdering police. Everybody has to join this fight.

If you're on a campus, mobilize students there to act on April 21 and spread the word to every campus you can reach, calling on them to act on April 21 too. If you aren't on a campus, add your name to the list of supporters of this Call for nationwide student action, and spread the word to every campus you can reach and everybody else you can reach. We must all declare that we refuse to live in a world where law enforcement has a green light to brutalize and murder people.

The Dogs Are Still in the Street!

The No More Stolen Lives Tour aims to bring the reality of murder by police to college campuses, directly posing the question to students, “Which Side Are You On?”—and calling on them to build for the tour and to take a stand in April by most urgently organizing a national student strike to stop police terror that will send a call to students throughout society to play a crucial role in being a part of putting a stop to this genocide.

On March 10, the No More Stolen Lives Tour came to San Francisco State University. Project Rebound, a program on campus that works with the formerly incarcerated to get them in and through college, endorsed the event and worked with us to get students there... 11 people are facing charges arising from protests organized by the Stop Mass Incarceration Network in 2014/15. Some are felony charges, and all could bring months or years in prison...all for non-violent political protest arrests. This is outrageous, given that police officers who kill and correction officers who abuse, almost never do any jail time.

Important court proceedings take place in the next two weeks. You can:
* Attend court proceedings in Chicago, Los Angeles, NYC
* Sign statements directed at prosecutors to drop the charges
* Donate for legal expenses (http://www.stoppoliceterror.org/r?u=https%3A%2F%2Forg2.salsalabs.com%2Fo%2F7315%2F donate_page%2Fwe-say-no-more&e=4160b7d4c80bd7ff2829463c3b9e0a03&utm_source=riseupoctober&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newsletter_3_29&n=5) via Alliance for Global Justice. Please mark your donations for "legal expenses." You may designate a particular case.

Chicago: Iggy & Alfredo Face Felony Charges from 2014

On December 13, 2014, protesters took to the streets in Chicago, furious over grand juries’ refusals to indict cops for the murders of Mike Brown and Eric Garner. Chicago police arrested more than two dozen people. Most had their charges dropped or were allowed to opt for “community service”. One woman won her trial, defeating the misdemeanor charge against her.

Two protesters, David “Iggy Flow” Rucker and Alfredo Reyes, were beaten by police, and then charged with aggravated battery to a police officer and slapped with $75,000 bail each. Over a year later, they still face felony charges carrying possible 7 year prison sentences.

On October 23, 2015, as part of #RiseUpOctober, 100 protesters marched to the entrance of Rikers Island, holding portraits of people who had died at Rikers. They spoke out, sang and danced energetically, and some sat down chanting "Shut It DOWN!" The NYPD had put up barricades across the road leading to Rikers Island prison. For more than an hour access was blocked.

Rikers Island is compared to the prison the United States ran in Iraq, Abu Ghraib, the site of scandalous prisoner abuse. This is no exaggeration. Decades of deaths in custody at the hands of guards, brutal and widespread sexual violence, solitary confinement for years, denial of medical care, and abuse of children are routine—a part of the genocide of mass incarceration. Of those imprisoned at Rikers on an average day, some 90 percent are Black or Latino.

Clark Kissinger & Miles Solay face charges serious enough to get a one-year sentence on Rikers Island for nonviolent political protest. We can’t allow this happen!

If you knew that a murderer was living next door would you do something? What if you witnessed the murder happen, would you demand for justice then? What if countless people were losing their lives every day at the hands of one notorious gang? We have all seen the videos of the crimes the police commit against humanity--killing people who are running away, have their hands up, are laying on the ground or doing nothing. People beaten, tased, stomped, choked and shot to death. If a photo is worth a thousand words, you would assume a video would be worth enough to indict, convict, and send these killer cops to jail. And yet they continue to get away with murder. If you are Black or Brown, you live under that threat every day of your life. If you don't, you probably know someone who does. There is a genocide happening right under our noses. It is a slow genocide now, but you look at people like Trump and you see how this genocide could escalate. The time to fight this is NOW!

Help Defend our Freedom Fighters!

Chris --

Thank you for signing the petition to drop the charges on our brave Freedom Fighters, Miles Solay and Clark Kissinger! We need to be ready for trial on Tuesday, as *no deal* has been offered to them, a very odd scenario. Usually at least some kind of deal is offered before trial begins.

I write because we still need your help! If you could please share the petition to your friends, family, and everyone on your social network, that would be a great help. We would like to double the number of signers we presently have, so if each of you could get just *one* person to sign, we’d reach our goal. Here (http://www.stoppoliceterror.org/drop_the_charges_on_clark_miles_for_shutdownrikers ?recruiter_id=2&utm_campaign=sharepetition&utm_medium=email&utm_source=riseupoctober&e=4160b7d4c80bd7ff2829463c3b9e0a03&utm_source=riseupoctober&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=sharepetition&n=1) is the link to the petition:

Also, Clark & Miles have an update that was aired on an MTV news segment. Would you share that as well?
