Tariq Ali

I am starting this thread to see if anyone else reads Tariq Ali and/or New Left Review? I personnally absolutely love Tariq's work and have heard him speak at Brisbane's 2003 'Ideas at the Powerhouse'....an amazing intellectual and a true and inspirational leftist in my oppinion...poingnant and defiant, yet not extremeist and compassionate and tolerant...

what are other's views on him and his work?

Tariq Ali is a great guy. I haven't read much of his stuff, but I've seen him give his view on tv quite a few times.

What is New Left Review? I only know of Green Left Weekly in Aus?

New left review is a magazine/journal published bi-monthly in England but read all over the world...it is the leader in Left academic literature/journals... Tariq Ali is one of the Editors and writers of New Left Review.....if you wanna check out the site they publish a few of the articles from each edition on the website..

I saw tariq speak at the ideas at the powerhouse too, but i went to the opening night as i was too poor to attend his lecture that cost like $40.

Tariq's books, particularly the clash of fundamentalisms and Bush in babylon were very good.

I don't actually live in Brisbane, I live in Biloela, which is in Central Queensland....I was sponsored by CS Ernergy to attend ideas, and so they paid for all my tickets to the speakers events etc... which i am very thankful for!! but i am moving to bris next year.....where abouts do u live in Brisbane?

I have listened to quite a few speeches and interviews with Tariq Ali. He isn't on par with Chomsky or Blum, but I do enjoy his work. I have started reading his book Bush in Babylon, which I am enjoying so far.
