More comprehensively, though, you have to ask *where* any purported 'intrigue' would even *take place* in modern-day society -- recall that our current bourgeois world retains many older, defunct social forms, like those based on religion, myth, and, here, 'court', as in the official chambers of the aristocracies of past centuries. If one's life and living is inextricably, intimately tied to the private property of another -- *not* the case in our modern times of the cash economy, etc. -- then there *could* be a world of intrigue around 'palace ins-and-outs', or perhaps if one is closely associated with the government sector.
