From when to when should I research old threads? I have found A LOT of interesting content, but I'd like to limit my search in order to find more useful stuff.

I cannot divulge what I was shown, but the people writing the 'reports' for the BA were fuckin hilarious. Proper little Stalins, some of the members among us. They would probably wear that as a badge of honour, though

Right now, after we finally purged all those IS fascists who had infiltrated our dear forum.

I meant some time where both the quantity and quality of posts was high.

'cause things were sure better than what they are.

Post in this forum have a tendency towards repetition. Thousand of threads like "Stalin vs. Trotsky vol. n^n bolshevik bugaloo" or "Kronstad did nothing wrong" wich add nothig to the discussion, also tendency beating has been a constant. The only thing that was better before is that there were more threads about what was going on in the world and not only the US, like nowdays it is.

And of course neon avatars, those were the days :D

Yes. Rooster was a user the admins disliked apparently so his name was censored

Glorious forum has always been glorious. Maybe those who disagree should carefully rethink their positions before they are relocated to Camp Purification.

Rooster was banned in a separate purge.

Are you sure? Was it not the Great Purge in 2011?

If not it was around the same time. I seem to recall that the site was down for a long time and when it came back, Rooster and most of the young US LeftComms had either been banned or jumped.

EDIT: I think I just slandered Ismail. I may have meant Khad.

The 2011 purge was when the forum went down. A couple folks had gotten banned for specious reasons, others started complaining, the forum went down for a few days then when it came back up, many more were banned and the narrative of the 'fascist conspiracy' started getting peddled. Followinng all that was when redmarx was started up.

Rooster was banned in a separate incident, but I'm pretty sure not long after. If I remember correctly he posted some YouTube video as a joke and it was claimed that it contained a rape joke in it. Not long after he was banned. Then welshy posted a screenshot of one of the admins making a rape joke and he was summarily banned and the post deleted. There may have been a few other casualties that I can't remember (raylon or something like that?) as the roosterites as a whole were claimed to be engaging in sexist/anti-woman behavior for collectively calling themselves "the cocks."

Yeah Welshy pretty much threw himself over the cliff on that one.

Well when future generations are looking back at this there will at least be a footnote somewhere saying 'the sectarianism of internet forums such as RevLeft delayed the formation of a revolutionary nucleus in North America by 5-10 years'.

the worst part about purges is that all of this passes as nostalgia for some of you

Blake's Baby

Well, maybe, but I think there is a genuine political content that is being covered with rather bleak humour.

It's probably based on a mistaken assessment of the possibilities in the immediate wake of the financial crisis that really began to bite in 2008 though. In 2011 the Syrian civil war, though horrific, wasn't all-consuming; Libya wasn't quite the basket-case it is now; the working class in Europe and the US was not quite so shell-shocked as it is now. We spects than we are now.may just be looking back 5 years to a time when we were more optimistic about prop

o well this is ok I guess

I vaguely remember there being a purge related to fascists in some forum game
which purge was that
