Ok the great thing about communism that i love to point out to people, especially when they are complaining about taking their basics at the college, is that in communism, you go to school to learn what you want to learn, that pertains to what you want to do with your life...

But i had a question purposed to me that i could not answer...

Doctors will go to school because they want to learn medicine and the such...but how will we be sure that a lot of people will actually wish to do it? Will there be a scarcity of doctors, and other needed professions, just because that urge to gain money is gone?

I didn't want to tie in what lenin did, ala a small vanguard(i think?) controlling the people and helping them, until they are ready to control themselves....

i do that because i hate using Russia as an example as true communism because people always complain and say it didn't work out...

What are your opinions?

I don't think there's any way to tell ahead of time.

For all we know, by the time of proletarian revolution, most doctors would be highly-sophisticated computers and only if your illness "stumped the computer" would you actually see a human doctor...who might be a "medical genius" with a sincere interest in your "interesting case". (Doctors hate boring "routine ailments" just like everyone hates boring routines.)

Another problem is that we don't know what medicine itself will be like -- there may be many new and far more effective treatments for the failings of human flesh...while many things done now will be regarded as obsolete, useless, and even harmful.

So I don't see much point in wondering if there will be enough anything...we'll just have to wait and see.

Becoming a doctor is a hard. You continuously need to prove that you are good enough to be trusted with lifes.

Most of those who choose that path exclusively for money will draw back, the process is not worth it.

doctors do not get paid much at all. I've heard of plumbers earning more than doctors. It is not as "middle class" as it seems, judging by the hours most doctors work, they are severely underpaid and overworked. in a society ruled by workers, i think medicine would be increasingly popular, due to the reduced hours and increased pay.

Cuba has more doctors per capita than the US & the incentive to become a doctor in Cuba isn't money.

Mainly you don't have the horrific bills from Med School.

I would say we'd have a plethora of doctors, seeing as schooling would be free, and there will always be people who want to "save others".

Communism is based on free association on agreeable work. If someone doesn't want to be doctor they don't have to be. As Clarkist said schooling would be free so it would be open to anyone. In a communist society you can pursue you're own profession providing you do you're daily duty to society because Kropotkin said that in order for society to gain all it's necessities we would have to work around about 4 hours, the rest of the day could be dedicated to you're leisure etc.
