"On this day in 1889, Gavril Ilyich Miasnikov, Russian metalworker and communist revolutionary, was born. A participant in the 1905 Revolution, he soon became an underground activist for the Bolsheviks before being arrested and sentenced to seven years hard labour in Siberia. He would again be active in the 1917 Revolution, arguing that producers soviets, rather than Bolsheviks or trade unions, should run the economy. Expelled from the party, he eventually fled Russia before being arrested in France by Soviet secret police, brought back to the USSR and was executed in 1945."
