23 yo MarShawn McCarrel committed suicide in front of the Ohio Statehouse. (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/activist-marshawn-mccarrel-kills-ohio-statehouse-article-1.2525393)

No one is quite sure his reasons, although it's tempting to see this as a form of protest. His family says he may have been struggling with the emotionally draining nature of his work. Others think he may have had some serious mental health issues.

Holy shit, that's pretty shocking.

Mental health issues sound right, but I'm sure the exhaustive nature of organizing and constantly confronting the depressing reality of how little black lives are valued didn't help. Even with that, it does seem like a form of protest.

I wonder if (but certainly don't hope that) others might do the same in their desperation. Depending on the circumstances I could see things like this being one of those sad markers of an era.

This makes me think of something I read that really resonated:

"It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society." - Jiddu Krishnamurti

What is there to say, really, except that this tragically demonstrates a demon the left will continue to face as long as movements are stuck spinning their wheels in the dirt.

None of us here can expect communism in our lifetimes, nor hence can we expect an end to racism, sexism, ableism, poverty. Yet, what we do now will build the foundation for what comes later.

That's extremely similar to something R.D. Laing once said, and I wonder who said it first.

"Insanity - a perfectly rational adjustment to an insane world."
