Ok, question. In "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton, were the "socialists" actually "socialists" in the sense that we use the word, or were they something different? Their behavior (ie beating up inner- city kids) doesn't seem like any socialist I've ever met.

Insight?

Probably not. I haven't seen the movie in quite a while (never read the book but it can't be that diferent, right?) . Just seems like another term to identify a group of kids with. But I could be wrong  What a good movie.

Ok. Thanks. I thought as much, but I wanted to make perfectly sure. Does it even say "socialists" in the book, or was I just misreading it (or not remembering correctly. It's been quite some time since I read it).

I've only seen part of the movie, but it seemed fairly true to the book. Your call is as good as mine.

I read that book 3 times back when I was a teenager. The "Socs" were the socials which can be interpreted to be socialist by conspiracy theorists. I really don't know what to make of it.

interesting, but no. They were the popular kids/socialites, as somebody has already said. Good book and a good movie, it had alot of major talent back before they were famous multimillionaires.
