Fascist street patrols ridiculed in Finland

In recent months, the streets of finnish cities have been plagued by fascist vigilante street 'patrols' claiming to protect finns from immigrants, ie walking around harassing people disagreeing with or unwanted by their ideology. With a large anti-immigrant party in the government and the subsequent normalisation of racism and fascism, these "Soldiers of Odin" have been allowed to keep on with their actions.

Now however some people decided it was time to take action in a rather entertaining fashion :)


Mark Twain once famously said, “The human race has only one really effective weapon and that is laughter.” The power of this weapon was beautifully demonstrated when the Soldiers of Odin (someone should tell them Odin was the foreign god of their colonial overlords) decided to skulk around the streets of Tampere. This group, which has taken to patrolling various Finnish towns to “protect” people from immigrants, few of whom would be stupid enough to hang out on the streets in minus 20 anyway, were met with a real threat on Saturday. Ridicule.


LOL at Seig Fail!

The Loldiers of Odin are named after LOL, the popular abbreviation for laugh out loud. This is exactly what we did when we saw them in action in the video below. Joining the Finnish vigilantes, the Loldiers of Odin promised to protect them while dancing around them to happy nursery rhyme tunes. If they were momentarily left behind, they quickly hurried along: “Run, they’re unsafe without us!”See link for video:

Well, if they knew their history of finnish pre-christian polytheism, they should probably be called Soldiers of Ukko the Overgod, who was the head of the pantheon similarly to Odin.. A bit over the level of knowledge in these Mensa circles I fear.

That said, on a more serious note, these patrols are a quite worrying development, reminiscent of the situation when fascism last became a real threat against humanity. It the 'Loldiers' manage to ruin their thing with ridicule that is fantastic, but their existence and acceptance are far from a joke.

Situation in Finland is serious. Mainstream media is making big headlines about horrors of immigration and then move to advertise "street patrols", suggesting that nazi organizing is a natural outcome. The founder of Soldiers of Odin is a member of the neo-nazi "Nordic Resistance Movement" (also openly involved in street patrolling).

There was one counter-attack where people threw buckets of ice water on the nazis out in the freezing cold. The clown thing is funny but water is quite creative too. However, it looks like the mainstream left and "communist" parties are totally capitaluted and focusing on economic struggles.
