At first I thought "fuck you guys are fucking insane" but that could actually be really useful to me on second thought cause I fucking hate that noise where your spoon/fork scrapes on your dish and hurts your teeth.

You only need an axe, a hook knife, some sand paper and maybe some beeswax if you're going to use it.

I just realized I don't go for walks anymore as often as I used to, even though I love just walking around my neighbourhood or through the forest listening to music. Being surrounded by people the whole time makes me appreciate loneliness from time to time. And taking a walk gives me time to think about shit, something I might just need atm.

I write political prisoners who are held in solitary confinement. I ended up becoming good friends with original Black Panther, Albert Woodfox of the Angola 3 who has been in solitary for 43 years.
There are so many out where and here in Louisiana, the population is overcrowded in solitary confinement and death row. It really is making a difference in ones life. And the prisoners as well.
And... you don't have to leave your apartment to do it.
Fun fact, when I was 15 one of the letters I wrote to a political prisoner was intercepted by my father and my parent grounded me for it.

I always think I'd like to do this, but I don't know how to get started. I know there is the anarchist black cross in the UK, but I don't have the confidence to write a letter to someone - I don't know what to write. What kinds of things do you write about in a first letter?

Right. And you guys where also very helpful with Common Ground, with the anarchists and black panthers aid to Katrina victims. When Sasha came to visit me, we went down to the lower 9th where Common Ground is.
It is awkward because you don't have that person in front of you to exchange expression and words. I was referred to by Albert by Robert King, the 1st Angola 3 member to be released so I had a calling card, but even still getting started is hard. I had met Robert when he was a panelist at one of my civil rights events I organized on solitary confinement.
The one thing to remember is, they are building themselves around you. So I would send a pic or 2, of you and the outside of your home or pet. And tell them what is important to you. After that, the questions will flood in for you to answer. Your political work updates would be a great thing to discuss. Albert knows the very up to date info on incarceration rates, what the courts are doing etc. He will call on Sundays and remember something we talked about months ago and ask "Oh how did that turn out?" "is you son doing better at work?" They really do live vicariously through their pen pals.
It really helps everyone involved, Now I sometimes wait until he calls before I make a decision because I want his opinion.
He has become my friend and I love his kindness and spirit. We dream of the day he will be released and I cook him a proper southern meal with fried chicken , greens and corn bread and lima beans. :)

I wish I had time for an additional hobby. It's not that I'm particularly busy, but every day I feel there's too few hours to do what I want to do now. For instance, today I got to read less about dead Russians from a century ago than I wanted to.
I also want to study sports physiology and strength and conditioning in my spare time, but alas, that would go at the expense of socialist literature, or socialising, and then there's studying for university and work.

l was actually going to add that to the list of activities... Because I hate how long sleep takes, and I need 8-9 hours of it.
There's this guy who sleeps like 20 minutes 3-4 times a day or something and he functions fine. I was tempted to try that to save time so I could do more stuff -- and 'live' longer.

I've heard about this shit. I wonder how well it works. Like, I've heard it can actually be very effective if you get it somewhat consistent. But I know nothing of sleep patterns and such so idk if its really possible to change your sleep schedule like that

But I know nothing of sleep patterns and such so idk if its really possible to change your sleep schedule like thatThere's people who try to sleep only 4-5 hours. If that's possibly without feeling like shit, it should be like adding 1/6 of time to your life. Though the drowsiness and health problems(depression, cardiovascular problems, ect.) might negate it. 6-7 hours of sleep is usually considered the minimum that's healthy, though some doctors have told me 5(maybe just holding out on sleeping pill RXs?)
Taking naps thought the day rather than continuous sleep is called polyphasic sleep (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyphasic_sleep). Its proponents cite various prominent individuals, and armed forces have such a scheduled out of necessity. Of course, soliders and pilots do get health problems and have accidents likely because of this, and a lot of those prominate individuals either had some genetic variant or likely did/do get problems from sleep deprivation. I mean does the examples of Thatcher, Churchill and a bunch of CEOs really make a good case for it? Not that everything they do is bad, a broken clock is right twice a day.

In those 9 hours of sleep, 8 of them could be spending making money, or reading about dead Russians.

I'm brushing up my French as well as learning some Spanish (using duolingo, though I reckon the Spanish I learn through that will have its limits - I have a dictionary/grammar book so I think I'll also use that to learn "clusters" of vocab and get an idea of how the grammar works).
Anyway, the main interference I have is that when I try to think or speak Spanish, if I don't know a word I just think or speak French in a Spanish accent.

Spanish is pretty easy. I put 0 effort into learning it throughout school, yet I'm pretty sure that I could get along fairly easily if I were stranded in a Spanish-speaking nation. If I lived in a Spanish-speaking nation I could probably become fluent within a year.

I could see confusing two similar languages if you had the same knowledge level in both. I'm furthering my Spanish, which I already know a lot of, and learning Turkish, which I know nothing of. So far, I have no issues.
On sleep, that's when bodies rebuild themselves after whatever stressful things you've done while awake. I rode my bike 11 hours this weekend, and nine hours feels terribly insufficient today. Doing something mentally strenuous seems to need sleep to allow adaptation and relief as well, for me.
I would love to be able to take a mid day nap, but there's only so much sunlight and work makes it impossible. Maybe splitting sleep into two would be nice - I've seen it suggested that people used to do that in the winter. I could work, come home, sleep a few hours, go out dancing, sleep a few more, work out in the morning, go back to work... Sounds nice.

You know what, I never really got roleplaying and I think it's never really been a 'thing' in the UK as much as across the pond so it's not like I played it when I was a kid or whatever but a friend of mine invited me to a session a couple months ago and I had loads of fun even if my character died cos I dived into a room guns blazing when I shouldn't have. I think it brings out the creativity in me.
As for hobbies, I'm quite lucky in that I know a dude who works in a bookshop and he sometimes gets free books to read and review, sometimes before they're officially released, which he'll lend to me. I'm also a huge fan of film and can spend huge periods of my day in front of a screen. All this escapism might say a lot about me...

yeah, i agree, it seems like its a way bigger thing in the states, whereas here I'm lucky to find more than a couple of stores selling books and minis and stuff and its a pain in the arse to find people to play with, especially now I've left university. At its best though it is an amazing thing to do, a lot of my best ideas have sprung from gaming sessions over the last 6 or 7 years

I've had a love/hate relationship with sleep most of my life. Most of my memories from the ages of 2-4 involve me getting in trouble for getting up when I was supposed to be in bed. As a kid, I was convinced that I never slept, and my parents had to take a picture of me sleeping to prove it to me.
As an adult, I opted to work midnights as soon as I could, because sleeping during the night was so difficult for me. After work, I'd be so exhausted that I'd have no choice but to crash... but only for a few hours. This led to me sleeping 3-6 hours a day for years and years. As much as that sucked, many of my co-workers - particularly women with families - got even less than that. Midnight shifts should be abolished. How many millions ruin their health because of a factory's need to run 24-7?
When I got into drugs, my favorites were uppers - all the better to allow me to stay up drinking for entire weekends without having to sleep.
Currently, I wake up about 50 times a night. At work I fall into extremely deep sleeps every day. One of these days I'm gonna get caught. :crying:
