After escaping from maximum security prison in July, the most wanted drug trafficker in the world Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán Loera is back in the same prison. The story goes that he was caught making a movie in his native Sinaloa. One of the most heated states of Mexico when it comes to the Mexican drug war. More details in this article that I skimmed over...

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/09/world/americas/El-Chapo-captured-mexico.html?_r=0

A few things being talked about:
Will the Mexican government hand him over to the Unites $nakes after they failed to keep him locked up?
Why is he being held in the same prison that he already escaped from?
How will the Mexican state look if they hand him over?
How will they look if they don't?

Those questions are gonna be in the news for a while, but those are also questions I don't care about.

What really came to my mind is why do they keep placing emphasis on this story that he was making a movie? Why does he keep going back to Sinaloa after he keeps getting captured there? Especially to big cities like Los Mochis and Mazatlan. This one I feel is pretty important, and hopefully no one of concern is reading this... Has everyone forgotten about El MZ?

All of that vanity aside, what really pissed me off about this whole incident is the coverage of the US's biggest latino aimed propaganda wing Univision. During this ongoing special edition of Al Punto, they talked about the site were El Chapo was captured both recently and over a year ago. They're seeing people taking selfies at the spot and sed spot having a spike in tourism. The same thing having happened in the city of Mazatlan were music videos were even made at the hotel El Chapo was caught in over a year ago, as well as the city of Morelia were La Tuta was captured around a year ago.

After mentioning this, the reporter called shame on the Mexican people for idolizing the drug lord. This sell-out, catholic, democratic party propaganda wing, is calling shame on the Mexican people for this. Even after they set aside hours of other stories and news reports to dedicate whole sessions to El Chapo. Even after playing all the and awarding narcocorridos they criticize on the radio stations they own. It's the Mexican people who are to blame.

They'll lynch them for worshiping the wrong idols, even though that method has been more effective at escaping poverty and humiliation. All this station wants is for Latino people to vote democrat, force their kids into college to serve the yankees, and slowly assimilate into American society. Taking only religion and a plate of tacos with them as offerings to the American overlords. Fuck the new i guess..

Why is this a politics story? He's a murderous drug lord. The fact he's taken on the state only shows that:

a) the Mexican state is in the pocket of the cartels at the highest levels, as is already known;
b) because drugs are illegal, organisations like the cartels effectively operate a dual-market, independent of the rules, norms, and traditions of the state - they have created their own.

El Chapo and the rest of the cartels aren't some anti-statist inspiration; they are businessmen who just happen to operate outside of bourgeois legality.

Mexico hasn't trapped El Chapo, El Chapo has trapped Mexico. He's murderous druglord, with connections on 3 continents. His resources are massive, just because he's in prison doesn't mean anything.

He has connections in the Mexican government, probably the US government too!

I'd bet you a dollar he'll escape again!

Mexico has been under the boot of America for too long. Just like us Albanians, we have been ... of the American beast for too long! Our children indoctrinated to the repulsive worship of this country! I think its time for the world to slay the sacred cow of capitalism. Respect to all the proletarians of Mexico from Albania!

Aslan please edit out your sexist/homophobic comment.

Doesn't Mexico have a law against extradition if it's likely he/she will face the death penalty? If El Chapo is convicted of murder and or as a kingpin, he'll face the death penalty.

Yeah, Mexico doesn't have a death penalty so technically it's illegal for a government to give a citizen death or something. It's not followed or enforced though. If they do extradite him they might charge him with trafficking and he'll probably be able to buy a reduced sentence.

Otherwise if he gets a good enough lawyer he might get off and then he'll just go back to Mexico. His lawyer has to be good for their sake too, because if he's found guilty the lawyers life is, well....

do they really execute lawyers who can't keep him out of prison? seems like that would be a bit too obvious and high profile, but then again it wouldn't really surprise me.

When Amado Carrillo died after a failed plastic surgery incident, the surgeon and Carrillo's on duty security guards at the time of the surgery got killed.

From the interview that was recently posted online with him, he doesn't seem like a particularly interesting character. Just a guy who was really good at trafficking and became really rich/powerful because of it. I like my drug villains with a healthy streak of violent sadism/eccentricity, Griselda Blanco-style ;)

Even so his success shows the US's failure to control the drug problem.
