monkeydust
18th February 2004, 20:44

Is this some kind of sadistic joke?!?
Cher, the most influential ever, or even any in the list.
Hopefully some people will support me in my choice.
I nominate
J.S.Bach
He was a real musician and has had real influence
Red, Green, and Gold
18th February 2004, 21:50
Ha.
Is this a joke...? Cher hasn't had any influence on anything, at least nothing that I've seen. Of the artists on that list, I'd undoubtedly pick The Beatles. They shaped Modern Rock as we know it, even if they didn't affect much else.

The Beatles rocked and still do! :D I adore them!
Hegemonicretribution
22nd February 2004, 21:23
I would probably put the Beatles in the top few most influencial musicians, along with Beethoven, Stravinsky, Elvis and the Spice Girls...however they would probably not be in my top ten "best"
Musically I like the doors better, but despite your excellant choices I think I will pass on the chance to vote. It would be like lying to a very delcate part of myself.
Yazman
23rd February 2004, 06:43
I voted for the Beatles, as they were probably the only ones really worthy of being there. Possibly Madonna may be worthy.
If Elvis or Michael Jackson were in there, I would have voted for them, if we're talking about the modern age.
But it all really depends on what genre you're talking about, and what period of time, it's too hard to say things like "Mozart was better than Bob Marley", you understand what I mean?

23rd February 2004, 08:45
LOL, thats a crappy poll. In reality, the most influential on music would be, Elvis, The rolling stones, Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Michael Jackson, even the sex pistols.
With the exception of the beatles none of the listed by the thread starter.
Sabocat
23rd February 2004, 10:50
Mozart ;)
Pedro Alonso Lopez

The Doors, for bringing the blues back into music and having one of the most covered songs ever, Light My Fire.

none of the above
Akasha
24th February 2004, 16:26
I would say none on this list...best musician ever? I would have to go with Michael Jackson...not the best music ever but for his influence on music, the music business and popular culture.

Only the beatles are worthy to be on the list.
who the fuck is nikki webster?
who the fuck is m2m?
who the fuck is sister 2 sister?
your talkingabout the best/most influential bands/artists and i have never even heared of those three. WTF?
the list should have:
The Beatles (I love)
Michael Jackson (I love)
Elvis (I hate)
Queen (I love)
Nirvana (I hate)
The Rolling Stones (I like)
The kinks (I like)
The Beatles are the best band of all time.

Haven't you figured out that this whole thread was BS from the start?
Oh and your list while better than the original has a few holes in it too.

25th February 2004, 11:25

27th February 2004, 06:18
I do not believe you could EVER include Nirvana in a list of the greatest musicians ever.
Rastafari
27th February 2004, 12:07
Not even in the top 100, as far as I'm concerned.

<<i like Nirvana, their cover of Led Belly's Where did you sleep last night is the only song that has ever made me cry, and I'm a big ol cornbread fed southern boy.>>
That song wasn't written by Huddie Ledbetter. Cobain was wrong about that. It's actually a much older song, which can be dated back to at least the 1860s. The original artist is unknown.

Beethoven
Mozart
Jimi Hendrix

28th February 2004, 20:57
i said nirvana before i had time to think about it, well think about it, more actually read the question the most influential is beatles before almost everyone theres no one who really compares they influenced every generation, nirvana dont get me wrong were and are a very influential band, in the way that they created the attitude of a generation, but they in themselves were influenced by the beatles
Winston Smith
2nd March 2004, 23:43
Out of thouse I gotta pick the Beatles.
Individual
3rd March 2004, 02:30
Ah yes.
Out of that list, definetely the most influential was this great choice:
Null Vote (See post results)
Then wonder how in the world you have come up with this list.
Dr. Rosenpenis
3rd March 2004, 02:48
Sounds like a list you might have seen on VH1 or something.
Jesus, that channel is shite!
Ever since they tried to compare The Who and Led Zeppelin..... in I Love 1978.

Agreed.
The best way to learn about music isn't by reading about it or watching programs on it.

I must confess that I am the best violinist at skool, yep, unrivalled excellence and prowess, too bad that I am not on the poll. :P

13th March 2004, 05:31
What??!! How can you have a list of best musicians ever and not have Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Eddie Van Halen, or any famous blues artist... louie Armstrong?
Not one of the following qualifies as a musician...
Madonna
Cher
Nikki Webster
Sister 2 Sister
m2m
whitney houston
Nirvana.... may have been popular, but as far as musicians go they were crap.
the Beatles and the Doors both qualify although I think Jim Morrison really carried the rest of the Doors while all the members in the Beatles had great talent. There are many bands and individuals that could have made that list and would have been higher on my list than the Doors, not to mention Madonna and Cher or... Whitney Houston for crying out loud!
Where's Jimi Hendrex? Or Eric Clapton?

What the hell is wrong with most of you, if you don't know everyone on the list look them up on the net you'll see it's a great joke. Fuck, have you people no sense of humour however I must agree it is a great injustice that atomic kitten is not mentioned.
