JVP New York taking a stand against police racism and Islamophobia on the first night of Hanukkah. Join us Thursday for our action in Chicago (http://jewishvoiceforpeace.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=44fda0b60aa5102296294048f&id=db09cdfdc2&e=079ae7db83) calling for an end to the JUF's police partnerships!
Dear Friend,
On the festival of Hanukkah, we read aloud the prophetic words, "not by might and not by power."
This Thursday, please join me, JVP-Chicago and Tzedek Chicago to make these words real by shining a light on the Jewish United Fund of Metropolitan Chicago (JUF)'s role in enabling racist police violence by brokering the relationship between the Chicago Police Department and the Israeli military.
This is one of a series of Hanukkah actions JVP chapters are organizing nationally to stand against Islamophobia and racism.
RSVP to join us in holding our community institutions accountable here! (http://jewishvoiceforpeace.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=44fda0b60aa5102296294048f&id=8bb66236c9&e=079ae7db83)
The JUF sponsors trips to Israel for police leaders to "share best practices and learn about Israel’s cutting-edge policing strategies and technologies" and "bring the lessons home."
This exchange of worst practices reinforces racist and militaristic methods of population control, racial profiling, and secret surveillance - contributing to a police culture of systematic violence against Black and Palestinian youth, from the Chicago Police Department's murder of Laquan McDonald, Rekia Boyd, and Dominique (Damo) Franklin to the Israeli military's extrajudicial executions of Hadeel al-Hashlamoun in Hebron, Fadi Samir Alloun in East Jerusalem, and many others.
RSVP here (http://jewishvoiceforpeace.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=44fda0b60aa5102296294048f&id=ea1724d6ab&e=079ae7db83), and spread the word on Facebook and via email!
"Not by might, and not by power." What better time than Hanukkah to shine a light on the Jewish United Fund's culpability in the militarized brutality we have long been witnessing in Palestine, Chicago and across the country?
Onward,
Rabbi Brant Rosen
