The one he wore in Bolivia, is now in the fine company of Felix Rodriguez - on his mantle peice next to the enlarged picture of him standing proudly next to a condemned Che and undoubtly amongst the watch and other possesions of ches he helped himself to.

id imagine theres probbaly one or two knocking about in Cuba, maybe one in the mosleum??? im just speculating here.

Che's famous 5-Star beret now sits in the Mausoleo del Che in Santa Clara, Cuba.

The beret was recovered, along with Che's uniform, from the mass grave in Bolivia in which Che's body was found.

If Felix Rodriguez says that he has it, he's lying and/or bragging. Rodriguez has Che's watch (a Rolex), and Che's half-used pouch of tobacco. That's it.

Hope that answers your question, Red...!

Nope. He was captured and later shot six times in the torso.

Actually, it was. As Che attempted to escape the Yuro Gorge, in which he and his men were trapped by the Bolivian Army, he unknowingly ran into a trap. The Bolivian Army had their guns fixed on the only escape from the gorge. As soon as Che came into their crosshairs, soldiers began firing, hitting Che in the ankle, disabling his rifle, and putting a hole through (and knocking off) his famous beret.

Che picked up the beret and continued to run (he attempted to order his men to do retreat - but the gunfire was too loud, and only several nearby guerrillas ran with Che), realizing that to fight was useless at that point. As he ran, he was captured in an ambush. And the rest, as they say, is history.

So yes, his beret was "shot off".

Che was a Comandante for most of his life during and after the Revolution.

Che already had a beret but fidel gave him the little star to put on his beret...
If you look at the older pics of che you can see him wit a beret that shows two crossing swords in stead of a little star...That means that che already had the beret before he was named a commandante.

The beret with the crossing swords was actually a completely different one, captured midway through the Revolution from a Batistiano.

Good thinking, but I'll quote an earlier post by H.I.M. (which is completely true, by the way):

Yes, Che's beret was knocked off. But someone did put it back on Che's head --- he did. So it stayed with him in his grave until his body was found in 1995, or whenever that was.

i have some vague memory about an anecdote somewhere,

ché was in the middle of a fight, and one of the guerilla's saw the baret with the crossed swords, tought that ché was a soldier and started shooting at him, quickly after that he saw he made a mistake, prolly made a good laugh afterworths

body found in 1995? I dont get that...they confirmed the death of Che on Oct.8, 1967. In 'Companero' (bio on Che) there's pics of his body after execution. (its freaky...his eyes are still open... :o )

Che's body was buried in a mass grave. The picture you saw was taken before his burial. The whereabouts of his remains were a mystery until 1995. In July of 1997, Che's body was unearthed and taken back to Cuba. His remains are now in a masoleum in Santa Clara.

Here's a timeline. Found here (http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB5/#declass) (bottom of page).

JULY 1, 1995: In an interview with biographer Jon Lee Anderson, Bolivian General Mario Vargas Salinas reveals that "he had been a part of a nocturnal burial detail, that Che’s body and those of several of his comrades were buried in a mass grave near the dirt airstrip outside the little mountain town of Vallegrande in Central Bolivia." A subsequent Anderson article in the New York Times sets off a two-year search to find and identify Guevara’s remains. (Anderson,1)

JULY 5, 1997: Che Guevara biographer, Jon Lee Anderson, reports for the New York Times that although the remains have not been exhumed and definitely identified, two experts are "100 percent sure" that they have discovered Che’s remains in Vallegrande. The fact that one of the skeletons is missing both of its hands is cited as the most compelling evidence. (NYT 7/5/97)

JULY 13, 1997: A ceremony in Havana, attended by Fidel Castro and other Cuban officials, marks the return of Che’s remains to Cuba. (NYT 7/14/97)

OCTOBER 17, 1997: In a ceremony attended by Castro and thousands of Cubans, Che Guevara is reburied in Santa Clara, Cuba. (NYT, 10/18/97)

To quote you knowledge666. Che was put to death in 1967 by those damn bolivians. And his body was buried by some airstrip. in 1995 we finally decided to get off our asses and look for him planning a 2 year search for his body. So in 1997 we finally found him. it took us 30 years to find him sad.....
