I'm from the Netherlands. I've started to take a greater interest in Marxism, and intend to self-educate myself on the subject. I thought having an account on this site might come in useful for that purpose.

Politically I lable myself simply communist, though in national politics I reluctantly vote for the Socialistische Partij, considering it can hardly be called socialistisch.

If you're curious about my username, I took it from what was a "nickname" given to the influential communist composer Hanns Eisler during the hearings of the House Committee on Un-American Activities (he'd fled Germany to escape Nazi terror).

Cheers.

Welcome :)

If you have political questions, you can ask them in the Learning forum. That's why it's there after all!

If you have questions about your account, don't hesitate to send me a PM or ask here.

You might find the work of the Communist Platform (http://communisme.nu/) interesting. We recently had a day school on the SP and we published a draft programme (http://communisme.nu/programma/) for the party. We also try to actively intervene, for example by giving voting advise (http://communisme.nu/commentaar/2015/11/26/stemadvies-voor-het-xxi-congres-van-de-sp/) in the upcoming 21st congress this Saturday. The point is that we need to take the party seriously, even if it is far from perfect.

Cheers indeed and welcome!

you seem to be a cool guy. I can show you some recommendations for an exquisite explanation of Marx's economic theories and another about the philosophy behind Marxism(Arguments from Das Kapital and other critiques of capitalism).

I actually already found Communistisch Platform some time ago myself (a real breath of fresh air when communism and the general far-left seemed pretty much dead over here). I was positively surprised to find that they have some representation over here.

I'm actually a party member (non-active, however), though I've contemplated getting rid of my membership. I've read some things on communisme.nu, and if it's really possible to reform the Socialist Party to be a proper socialist party, that'd be great.

I need to read more, though. Get some more understanding of what communism is properly about - at the moment I can define it, and I'm pretty much of the opinion that if it can't be "perfectly" reached, it's at least something to strive towards.

Thanks for the resources. I'll give it a look when it's less late over here :p
