View Full Version : Is a better world really possible?

I'm inclined to think that it doesn't really matter what can be done that this point. A vision of a better world via communism almost looks like make-believe far from here. There are many issues that could certainly spell the demise of the human race from an ecological point of view, and the chance of a complete form of societal collapse and constant violence afterward is more likely than a uniform class conscientious revolution. I realize that this is my pessimistic side talking, but, as far as I can see, I cannot think of a another alternative besides this.

What you're saying is absolutely true, but many people probably said the same thing as what you're saying in 1914, and the complete opposite in 1919 - seeing communism to be very likely in the near future.

the earth is fine, society has collapsed, and there is already constant violence so don't worry so much :)

Your signature is making me doubt if your question was asked in good faith - despite the fact that I've wondered about the same myself. My greatest worry is that along with the power of the mass media, surveillance and military technology has progressed to such a point that even the largest mass movement can be bullied into submission by the tiniest core of loyalist military - and thus any revolutionary movement is at the mercy of the military either destroying it or co-opting it for themselves.

We are in the same boat, but after reading many history books I know that, as Lenin himself said, "There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen".
Right now, we just have to wait, study, prepare, and hope for the best.

The revolutionary left is stuck in the 1980s. Seriously, although Marx is good as a basic understanding of how the world worked in the late industrial revolution. We need to something. Seriously the only people I know who still do this kind of stuff is Noam Chomsky and Slavoj žižek.
We are in a transitional phase. Eventually we will see the results of modern capitalism in a few decades. Until then all we can do is build ourselves up.

It summarizes my frustration with most supposed revolutionary leftists that I have come across. Many them have good politics on the outside, but when it comes to certain issues like mental health, it's a completely different story.

Care to elaborate?
I've read and followed some leftists articles and communities that I came across. And while they may have great political analysis, their connection with certain subjects like sexism and what I mentioned earlier are not as great. Very reactionary attitudes towards people with psychiatric disabilities, tendency to ignore gender and racial struggles of people who aren't white males, sizeism, and so on has convinced me that the revolutionary left in general has a lot to work on before it can have a standing in contemporary politics.

Because what the revolutionary left *aches* for, more than anything else, is to 'have a standing in contemporary politics'.

No future. Make total destroy.
Guardia Rossa's advice is "to wait, study, prepare, and hope for the best." I'm afraid I have to take the opposite line though. Hope for nothing - change everything now, as best you can. Otherwise you'll be waiting forever for something that's never coming.

I think this is good advice: "right now, we just have to wait, study, prepare, and hope for the best." Though most of the time I feel like this:
No future. Make total destroy.

It IS tempting. But after reading some books on the matter, historically, it was of no use.
Except feeding the media with the means of saying we are evil terrorists.
