Meme fidelity
In the old pyramid command model, meme fidelity is preserved by authoritarian methods. Everyone throughout the system is forced by various methods to obey the top of the pyramid as accurately as possible.
In a network, where each node is potentially linked with every other node, or has to rely on bridge nodes to relay the meme to new networks, meme fidelity has to rely less on authoritarian methods, and more on how much each node likes the meme. If they don't like it, then the meme transmission is immediately stopped (although other nodes may still transmit the meme around the blockage). If a node doesn't think the meme is perfect, then the node may rewrite it in a way that they think is better. If some parts of the meme are liked so much by some given node, that node may obsess over it, and transmit that part of the meme even more earnestly than the source.
Each node in the network applies their own filter to the memes passing by. Unpopular (or incomprehensible) memes are quickly contained and filtered out. Popular ones spread like wildfire, spawning all sorts of variations and improvements, even applications in unintended branches of knowledge. Attempting to maintain fidelity is a losing battle though. Eventually the meme will have to cross the language barrier, where fidelity is very difficult to maintain. Even if you manage to preserve a language across centuries, the changing context around which the language operates, will result in different interpretations of the original message.

Not sure if there are more, but there seems to be 3 reflexive ways people assign blame.
1. Blame yourself - these are the people who (either naturally or have been conditioned to) blame themselves for everything wrong in their lives. They are easily scapegoated by sociopaths since they don't fight back. As a result, they see their lives as a string of failures, and eventually withdraw from society into depression.
2. Blame others - these are people who blame others for everything that goes wrong. Whether they believe it deep down doesn't matter. Blaming others is a learned behavior, a defensive mechanism used to protect their own ego, and their status among others. These people live lives filled with conflict with the people around them.
3. Blame environment - these are people who shift the blame into the world around them, they blame the culture, they blame society, they blame the system. This helps protect their own ego, and reduces conflict with those around them. These people probably tend to become revolutionaries.
(Of course everyone falls into a spectrum between these types of behaviors, although some are much closer to one extreme than others.) Also interesting is how these types of people interact. For example, two type 1 people end up each blaming themselves for things that go wrong with their relationship - while conflict is minimal, it may eventually lead to both sides giving up on the relationship, or some other tragic ending. Type 1 dealing with type 2 might lead to an abusive relationship, in which type 2 becomes the abuser, and type 1 believes they deserve everything they get. Type 1 dealing with type 3 would probably require the revolutionary to overthrow the oppressive regime around them - hurry up guys ;)

My city's got this thing online where we can 'customize a budget'. I want to cut winter maintenance service and increase funding for libraries, but it keeps giving me some message about how people, especially seniors, will be more likely to get injured and take legal action against the city or something.
I want to leave a comment saying I will personally shovel every driveway in my neighbourhood all winter if it means getting better selection in the political science section of the closest library than fucking Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity (almost anything good has to be ordered from another branch). That would also be great exercise. Sadly, I don't think I'll be taken seriously. :(

The more people who are happy with their lives, the more they want order and predictability. They fear losing what they have, so they fear change.
The more people who are unhappy with their lives, the more they find hope in chaos and turmoil. They fear the lack of change, since that just means continued unhappiness.
Traditionally, it seems those on the side of structure and predictability favor authoritarian hierarchies. Everything is tightly controlled and rigid - every caste has their place. They can easily predict what is going to happen next - or at least, what is *supposed* to happen next.
Those on the side of change operate more fluidly - unpredictability becomes their arsenal, something they celebrate. Even societies with strict top-down pyramid structures have always allowed a certain level of anarchy within their societies, because those at the top can see the value of the creative introduction of new ideas from the chaos.
If there is too much unhappiness, the chaos overwhelms existing lattice structure, and old hierarchies are torn down - revolution. Over time, new structures are built up again - but if it's just another top-down pyramid structure, the corruption it facilitates eventually builds up enough unhappiness, and another revolution follows.
I guess the question is, is there a societal structure rigid enough to keep happy people feeling secure and living predictable lives, while still providing enough fluidity around unhappy people such that they too can quickly crystallize into a structure that they enjoy?
People in power can already easily make their own worlds happy - they can promote only people that they like, and so surround themselves with an inner circle of people that they like, and if they're lucky, live out their happy little lives surrounded by their favorite people. Of course, if their power structure is creating misery among the masses, sometimes their inner circle is pierced by assassins, ending their illusion of utopia.
But what if there was no pyramid and everyone spent their time looking for people to promote into their inner circles? Either that eventually leads to a structure in which everyone is happy with those around them, or they are in constant fluid motion, always looking for people they get along with more to put in their inner circle.

Sometimes it really seems like we can be more competent and intelligent in our sleep than awake.
Several times in university, I went to bed with an essay I had to write on my mind but no idea how to get started or even approach the topic. Then I'd have a dream that I was writing the essay. I'd wake up in the morning and the thing would write itself. I don't know how that's possible, but it saved my ass a few times!

One useful trick to influence other people or at least get them to notice you: remember names. You will often ingratiate yourself fast to someone if on another occasion you can successfully recall their name (which people like, because I think it registers subconsciously as "I must be a unique-enough individual that this person actually remembered my ascribed moniker!) and (if applicable) how you know others who they also know. You'd think that this would be an obvious thing for people to do but surprisingly many people choose to put no effort at all into remembering someone's name. If you just devote some of your memory to names & associations, I think it's actually pretty easy to infiltrate social circles and you can end up knowing quite a few different people.
That is my RL life-coach for the day.

I'm always nervous and uncomfortable when meeting new people, which leads to me having a hard time remembering their names (or, in the worst cases, even following the conversation.)
On the other hand, I also have a knack for remembering people's names and other things about them even after not having seen them for years, which people do generally find quite flattering. In fact, not to get into TMI territory, but this directly led to a very enjoyable evening at least once :).

I cannot give you anything to make you reconsider suicide, as it is something that also comes to my mind as well. But you don't necessarily want to kill yourself, you just want the pain that you endure in everyday life to end. Suicide may accomplish this, but once you die, you're taking away the subtle possibility of life getting better for you. Please realize that having those thoughts is not a sign of weakness or cowardliness, and anyone who says otherwise is an idiot, and that is a word that I don't normally use.
I've found that the best way to deal with those thoughts is to put them off for a later day, and distract yourself to something that you enjoy. Make time for you to indulge for yourself and relax, and see if it can be helpful for you.

Guide for "Marxist" Dogmatism (Weirdo Maoist and Faux-Stalinist-turning-into-another-Weirdo-Maoist (Nazbol) in this case):
1) Say that we should support IRA because Marx said in 17th century that liberating Ireland from UK would make a revolution there easier (Yea, right now the Labour Party could start the revolution as soon as N.I. is freed -_- )
2) Say that we should support IRA because Lenin said a century ago that Marxists should support national liberation (Even when the nation doesn't wants to be free and is actually quite autonomous) (Even weirder, Stalin divides nationalities according to language, quite stupid really, but this guys don't follow Daddy Stalin's orders! WTF?)
3) Say that Ireland is actually an opressed colony of UK, and that we should free it because we are against imperialism (As if Ireland was deeply exploited, was just a market for English goods, if they died en masse, etc... like in 17th century and before)
4) Ignore that liberating Ireland from UK now won't do a shit because UK is not opressing it anymore, joining the two Irelands may result in a civil war, etc...
5) Ignore that at the same time Rosa Luxembourg was against the policy of national liberation because it fueled nationalism and chauvinism (Or something like this, not an expert)
6) Ignore that Northern Ireland actually gets shitloads of subsides and that the only nations with big independence movements in the UK are actually Scotland and England (!)

"Kek" is a shortening of the Korean "kekeke", an onomatopoeia for laughter, if I recall correctly. "Topkek" (top cake) is a cheap and nasty little cupcake thing from the Turkish company ETI, responsible for bringing to the world such joys as Tutku, Popkek and that thing in the fridge what I don't remember buying and it kind of scares me.
(But not Kat Kat Kat, as I said in an earlier version of this post. That was by Uelker. I know all of these horrible Turkish confectionery things because they were extremely popular in our student cantina back in the day. By the way, the thing in the fridge is not a joke - I have some sort of awful Turkish cherry doughnut... thing... that I don't remember buying, I can't find the receipt for it and whenever I open the fridge I just avert my eyes from the spot where it stands because it's freaking me out.)

It was during the time that the alleged 'fascist infiltration' happened and I believe the official reason for his banning was that he played a part in it, or was a security threat of some sort.

Well, my guess is all postmodernists are [REDACTED]s.
Now, to a more serious answer, non-postmodernists usually hate postmodernism.
Either because it is too complicated (I admit I only know very little of it, mostly through contact with postmoderns and Zizek), because they [The people that dislike P.-M.) are really conservative idiots or (My case) because they see it not as revolutionary, but a acceptance of the capitalist logic and the defeatism of not believing in the possibility of a revolution. Or, reformist.
Futility Personified
23rd November 2015, 02:15
Post modernism is a mess of contradictions. In many instances you can say it is self-aware, innovative (I fucking hate that bloody word) and aims to build upon the foundations of what came before. At the same time you can say it is a poor attempt to fight cultural stagnation, weakly recycling superior things that came before and tearing them from their original context. The latter springs to mind regarding nearly anything with a 'leftist' theme. Originality has long since passed, look at websites like TV tropes....
I think an interesting argument would be along the lines of: Is hip hop post modernist?
Merely on the basis that when it initially came around it was the product of combining existing songs and rapping over them, and then building upon or referencing other people's work. Is it enough to reference other things or to use a pastiche approach, or does the title of post modern require more?
Despite enjoying quite a few things that are definitely post modern, as an analysis of culture is always struck me as pro-capitalist and soulless.

White supremacists shot up my home town, by any definition a "mass shooting," a "hate crime," an "act of terrorism," and yet I've barely heard anything from the media about it. A mass shooting of people already protesting the racist state, the racist police, the city which to this day remains highly segregated. A mass shooting which was ignored by the police station on whose property it occurred, literally steroids from the doors of it, except to pepper spray people demanding medical attention.
The mayor apologized for the police gunning down someone who was lying inn the fetal position in another city I used to live in, only a full year after the incident, and presumably long after he had a chance to review it; only making sure the guilty cop was charged with murder when it seemed likely the reformists were going to be unable to contain civil unrest and popular action against the racism of the state, maybe even the state itself and the exploitation it upholds.
Racist threats were made good as a black man was assaulted, beaten, and taunted with slurs on a college campus off the city I currently live in, with

The more power you have, the more you can record and store for longer periods of time. The more power you have, the more you can monitor simultaneously. Even if they don't have time to look at what you're doing now, if you ever give them a reason in the future, they can look back at their older records.
If you become important at the national scale, then you'll be monitored at the national level. If you become important at the galactic scale, then you'll be monitored at the galactic level. When one person suffers, people think "awww" and carry on with their day.
When a significant minority suffers, people get worried, but try to make it through their own day.
When the suffering comes to them personally, they think, "WTF is wrong with this society? I'm mad as hell!"
The less empathy in the society, the more the suffering of others is ignored. If in order to control the messages in the media, you have to step on others, you have to ignore the poor so that you can focus your wealth on purchasing power, then the messages in that society will be controlled by people who have purged themselves of empathy.

The less empathy in the society, the more the suffering of others is ignored. If in order to control the messages in the media, you have to step on others, you have to ignore the poor so that you can focus your wealth on purchasing power, then the messages in that society will be controlled by people who have purged themselves of empathy.
Bernie can solve all that.

I watched a movie called Persepolis at my school. Although our teacher left our class and probably didn't look at the movie's content (it gets graphic-ish at some points).
But anyway, the movie has made me been thinking of my own experiences. The main character's story is very similar to mine. Her childhood was similar in the fact that we had many of the same views. Although the part that specifically hit me the most was her experiences in a western nation [Austria] which were similar to my own. The blatant discrimination, the feeling of a loss, her struggle with ideology. The fact that her uncle who inspired her revolutionary fervor was a Communist (Marxist-Leninist) was incredible . As it is the first western piece to have a positive view of Communism.

Beauty standards are so messed up. Being bombarded with images of "perfect" bodies that don't even look human has warped my mind so that I no longer really know how the fuck bodies are supposed to look. Does anybody not have body image issues in this day and age?
I find my body is simultaneously too masculine and too feminine. When I put on a dress I feel upset that my breasts are small, that my waist doesn't go in enough, and so on - but as soon as I replace that dress with a shirt or tank top my body suddenly turns into an hourglass figure that refuses to be bound and flattened down. It's frustrating... But at least part of it is down to having no idea what real people, real bodies look like.
Maybe I need to do some life drawing or something. How can I unlearn all this bullshit and find peace with myself?

I dunno. Most of my closest friends are heterosexual and there's no reason to worry about their prejudice, 'cause there's seemingly none (or they're masters at the hide-and-seek of a discriminatory kind). The show is said not to be based on the alternate Abramsite reality; I'm just happy that there's further development to the storyline honestly. I hope there'll be new writing and that the story takes place post-Dominion War (though I can see the new series being based on the earliest days of the Federation, where ST Enterprise stopped with the Romulans as the big bad guys). I'll probably be happy with it even in case it isn't that good.
The biggest shock would be a series based on the Terran Empire reality
Now I see I assumed you meant the show; I'm also looking forward to the film even though I do think this whole time travel/destruction of Romulus thing was completely unnecessary (it also prompted some explanation along the lines "no, the good ol' Kirk exists as well but in another quantum reality").

Also, CYM originally said that documenting evidence would be compiled to support the bans, then went and edited out his post to remove the comments. Why? Can we still expect this to happen? The BA has accused revolutionary communists of apologizing for and supporting fascism. Take a moment to let that sink in. I do understand some users are frustrated by the latest decisions, and that is fair enough but the only thing anyone will be accomplish by complaining about them on the forums is the accumulation of infractions for themselves. Any post even remotely on this topic will be infracted after this point.

As my last post ended up on the previous page post-split I will give users here the benefit of doubt it went unnoticed or wasn't registered properly, and am leaving the above posts up to avoid the same thing happening again.
But here it is again, I am urging everyone to read it carefully now, as it gives an answer the questions asked: we do not discuss BA policy and actions on the forums, PMing an admin is the way to go if users have questions.

That's not much in the knowledge that 150 of them will be used for words and expressions like "fucking", "i will cut off my testicles", and "philistine".

My GP prescribed my sertraline (or 'zoloft' as I believe it's sometimes branded). Anyone have any experience of that? It's primarily to treat my anxiety rather than depression - not that I'm necessarily free from depression.

I've been on that for a couple of months. I'd say it's helped slightly. Mine is for depression, however, and not anxiety.

Not really related, but not sure if unrelated either - from http://www.occupythestage.net/solidarity/category/agent%20provocateurs
Agents will often be continually maneuvering for a forum moderator position. Once this position is obtained, the forum can then be effectively and quietly controlled by deleting unfavourable or vital posts and then agents can eventually steer the forum into complete failure and create a lack of interest among members to participate. Depending on the level of control an agent obtains, they can deliberately steer a forum into defeat by censoring postings, deleting memberships, flooding, and or accidentally taking the forum offline. This is the 'ultimate victory' as the forum is no longer active or useful in mobilizing, engaging or informing its members. By this method the forum can be quickly killed. However it‘s not always in the agent’s interest to kill a forum as it can be converted into a 'honey pot' of information and to misdirect newcomers. A compromised forum is also useful to an agent as a mechanism of control.

I didn't get on with it very well, but I didn't really stick it out for very long. Good luck though. Obviously different pills suit different people, so hopefully it will work for you.

Thanks, I lost my copy of the memo. Now I can remember how to take this place down from the inside. Also, honeypot? I gotta get started on flirting with sectarians to trick them into giving me info.

They're pills that doctors throw at you because they're "non-addictive" (yet give nasty withdrawal symptoms for some) & might work, based on some speculative science regarding the role of the neurotransmitter serotonin in clinical depression & anxiety.
Doctors in the UK are tight-fisted as all hell when it comes to tranquilizers (i.e. diazepam, temazepam etc) and getting said drugs is about as easy as pulling teeth because some joker got addicted to valium and decided to sue the NHS. At least so I'm told
For me personally, if anyone ever tried to give me an SSRI ever again, I'd tell them not to insult my intelligence, and if I wanted to do drugs I'll do drugs that actually do something, thank you very much.

Shouldn't you err...be PMing an admin to discuss this sort of thing?
Four legs good, two legs baaaaaaad.
Although to be fair it's a ridiculous accusation.

Clearly something that will either get my post deleted or my account banned ;)
Oh a more non-political note, I'm listening to this right now http://www.infinitelooper.com/?v=fpAUGk4U8kY - I'm sure that's a bannable offense too <3

No seriously, What are you implying? Because without an explanation it sounds like you just accused the BA of being cops.
If thats not what you meant, please explain. Work with me here.

Of course you would think that. Accusing people of being cops and snitches is just fun and games.
