After hearing a lot about this cult band I decided to go out and purchase a copy of "Never Mind the Bollocks", and I found this to be absolutely brilliant. Now I want another fix of the Pistols, but everyone I have asked doesn't seem to know the names of other Pistols albums, can anyone give me the names of other albums available that they would recommend???? I hope I ain't the only one who likes em here!

Never mind the bollocks is their only real album - worth having anyway, Filthy lucre live is ok though .. The pistols were essentialy manufactured by Malcolm Maclaren (a poisinous little tosser) though the massive impact of Never mind... was/is still having repercussions and inspiring others... An essential album which sums up those (circa 76) and perhaps these times..

Anarchy for the UK!

Apart from NMTB there was a Jubilee live album (with the best ever album cover in my opinion) and there was also an album called the Great Rock and Roll Swindle and Kiss This )I think this was just an EP).

yeah, sex pistols certainly had a few good songs. I also have Nevermind the bollocks... but I was disturbed to see a picture of Sid Vicious with a Nazi T-Shirt on.

He probably only did it in the name of irony, he was a complete nobhead, they all were but still made great music... At least Sid died young, spared from the embarressment of appearing on reality tv which Lydon/Rotten did recently..

Never Mind The Bollocks is their only real album when they were at their hight and had the best line up, the only stuff which is really heard
but this is the best album to ever come from a punk background is unbelievable

The songs on Nevermind the Bollocks are basically all the original songs the Pistols recorded. And it is basically true that the Sex Pistols were as manufactured as any boy band. If you like them though, I'd recommend that you find more 77 bands.

Thanks folks, had a look in HMV today to see what they had, and the "Jubilee" album looked quite good. I have also been told that John Lydon released some stuff after the Pistols split. Anyone know of any of his stuff?

Yeah, later Lydon was in a band called Public Image Limited (PiL). I was never much of a fan, but they've probably got a couple releases out. But, if you're shopping for punk music, HMV probably isn't the place to try.

Pick up "The Great Rock and Roll Swindle", there is some amazing stuff on that, including: Sid Vicious singing Frank Sinatra's My Way,2 versions of a song called Belsen was a gas, one with done in a polka style, a pirate song, and an orchestra version of EMI.

Sex Pistols fact of the day: Sid had never played bass before he joined the band.

Additional fact: Johnny and Sid used to jack off into Steve Jones's sandwiches.

By now you know the deal on the pistols. There's plenty of albums out there but most are just some shit thrown together well after they'd split up.
I've never been too fond of PIL.

Find a good music store to shop in not those big mega stores like HMV, Virgin etc.

Other suggestions:
Stiff Little Fingers
The Clash
Sham 69 (the pistols original bassist GLen Matlock went to Sham after leaving the pistols
Subhumans
Angelic Upstarts
Damned
The Jam
X-Ray Spex
The Slits
Generation X
999
Undertones
Anhrefn
Adverts
Anti-nowhere League
Siouxie and the Banshees
Ruts

That's a few off the top of my head, brit stuff with a few Irish bands and one Welsh band. Plenty more good punk where that came from if you are interested.

Who uses a pistol during sex?

What happens if it accidentally shot off and you ended up like John Bobbit??

haha. Just kidding. To tell you the shocking (oh my God!) truth. Never once heard a Sex Pistols song. So my opinion for you. Um. Listen to your own opinion and decide for yourself.

Right and back to the subject..

Lydon sang/screamed a terrific banshee wail on Leftfeild's - open up in the mid nineties, it is an astonishing piece of music...

Another interesting Pistols fact is that Sid was supposed to be the lead singer but Maclaren confused him with Rotten, also they all hated Rotten with a passion.. He now resides in Beverly hills and deals in property development and occaisionaly appears on reality tv.. So much for anarchy..

 at least he saw sense in the end though and walked out. He also picked a fight with some relative of another contestant. I think I'll get "Jubilee", cause it has all my favorite songs on it and some videos too.

i would say that sex pistol is the greatest punk-band ever! well, the clash might be on the same line.....no, sex pistol is just great!

by the way, sex pistols weren't let to come play in finland 'cos people here didn't liked that Glen Matlock was kicked off.... you don't need to tell me , i know this is very "intresting". :D

i've got the jubilee ablum, it's not really worth it, all the best songs on it are on never mind... and the others were recorded after johnny rotten left, the only reason for buying it would be for the videos.

Since people are talking about interesting facts; sid viscious was such a terrible bass player that they turned down his amp during performances and on the recordings the bass is always played by johnny rotten or the origional bassist (i forget his name, i think it was matlock or something).

The Clash beat the Pistols hands down in almost every way imagineable.

TheSex Pistols were monumental, and served a purpose, but in terms of band, the Clash blow them clean away. More talented, better songs and more variety to there stuff. I mean Should I stay or should I go and Rock the Casbah are like the two most famous songs and they are both completely different and great.

I agree with everyone else on the album choice, go for the diffinitive album, because that is the Sex Pistls, only the most die hard fan need go a lot further. Bodies is the best track on there imo.

Always Question you have issues?

Ah well, they may be sell outs, but lets face it so many people are they can't be majorly slagged for it. They came closer to achieving revolution than any of us, even if it was just stirring up hormone ridden, teenage, rebels without a cause.

I don't know whether to take that as a compliment or what.

However I said that for at first the name of the band 'Sex Pistols' didn't register in my head. I should have gathered enough evidence having been in the 'Music' forum, but hey. I then remembered of the band, however decided to write that anyways.

For I'm not a big punk rock kind of guy. Can someone clue me in on a sex pistols song I may have heard? I'm assuming they are from 70-80s or somewhere around there, so what was their big hit and around what time would this have been?

Late 70's. You'd know the songs "God Save the Queen" or "Anarchy in the U.K".

Sex Pistols fact of the day: Johhny Lydon appeared on a recent skateboard video to do intro's for all the riders sections. It's actually some funny stuff. The video is called "Sorry" from Flip skateboards, pick it up if you get the chance. It's all non-American riders, and they are taking over the skate scene.

the reason the clash owns the sex pistols is because they weren't afraid to experiment with loads of different styles. of course, the sex pistols weren't around long enough to do that and they were inferior musicians as well. though sid really had serious style going for him.

i love the sex pistols though, especially their song "submission"

That's because the Sex Pistols were a pre fabricated boy band. I mean, I love them, but it's more about the image and how they defined punk. The music is great, I still listen to them all the time, but their legacy is their the punk rock attitude. The Clash was just far better musically, but didn't have all the hype and image that the Pistols did.
