Kind of seems like an apt replacement.

That's awesome. Lenin lives on, although in a rather roundabout way.

Would be funnier if it was a statue of Stalin.

I don't think people understand, this is in Ukraine. Clearly reactionaries comparing Lenin to Darth Vader.

Let's not forget that Darth Vader was redeemed in the end.

Reminds me of the defamation of that Red army monument in Hungary by painting the soldiers to look like pop culture icons.

It is interesting - the elevation of seemingly non-partisan symbols onto ideological messages. Is this not the ultimate proof of how embedded in ideology pop culture is?

I mentioned this in another thread. I swear there was a time when RevLeft would have been in an uproar over something like this!

Didn't Reagan or someone close to him once publicly compare Gorbachev to Darth Vader? That seems more appropriate.

"You were the Chosen One! It was said that you would destroy the capitalists, not join them!"

Depressingly so, yes. Hopefully the reins of pop culture can be seized by revolutionary hands, however, and used for different purposes.
