I just bought his book "First as tragedy, then as farce". Has anyone read any Zizek, is it worth it? And what has he added to Marxism?

Me personally, I fucking love Žižek and I've taken a lot from his stuff. I'd definitely say so. I'm kind of a critical theory groupie tho.

I like him, I like some things he say, but he still has a foot in post-modernism.

Surely he's added Lacan to Marxism. Is it worth reading? Well, it depends on what level you are. He's first Marxist-celebrity, but he has annoying manner of confusing state capitalism with communism. It allows him to get to people contaminated by bourgeois terminology, but for the radical left-winger it's just annoying.

And in his opinion the best compliment you can take from him is: "You'd be great Stalinist!". :)

I like the guy. I don't always agree with him, but still. His thought and books might be pretentious to an extent, but his casual demeanor and eccentric humor is just so damn adorable.

Some people say he's a genius and anyone not understanding him is just uneducated, other people say he's talking incoherent, derivative, post-modern rubbish. I have no idea who is right but I love listening to him, even if some of the time I haven't the foggiest idea what he's on about.

I dont understand most of what he writes, and personally I think his effect is regressive. Ivory tower language that impresses the intellectual class and sounds revolutionary (I guess) but has little to offer in the way of action. The US academic industry now pays him a great deal of $$$ to say things that have, in my opinion, no relevance to the working class - and I don't think that's a coincidence. or maybe im just too dumb to get it.
