Where do deleted posts go?

I've noticed that when you delete a post you can enter a reason to delete it. Also, an admin once said that they can see edits made to a post. Do the deleted posts stay in the threads but are only readable by admins? Do they go into some sort of trash bin only the admins can see? Is this classified information?

I don't know about admins but as a mod, I can see that a post was deleted and the reason given, but not actually what was deleted.

pretty sure global mods are able or supposed to be able to see deleted posts as well as original posts and all edits made to a post in drop down form
