More horrific than death?

Death is peace, being dead is peaceful.

The prolonged process of decaying and dying (aging) is misery; losing memory is apart of aging and that's the saddest thing in the world that my old job showed me first hand. I cried with a really nice lady for nearly 30 minutes because her mum was having a bad day and didn't remember who she was (first occurance/experience). Granted my fam life isn't at all like that and only includes 3 cats but I couldn't imagine any of that. Either from a child or more fucked uply, the parents perspective.

I'm sorry, but I think this is a really fucked up stereotype of older adults. There are plenty of older people who don't "decay" or "lose memory." Yeah, shitty things happen and people get diseases, but just basically telling older adults that their horrific is pretty fucked up. I mean you've basically just said that being dead is better than being old...Everyone has something to offer society, even if they've got dementia or have "decayed." What about disabled people? Are you suggesting that you can swoop down with your technology blue prints and turn everyone into some idealised human? Whose fucking ideal would that be?

Why are you even thinking about this shit?

Yeah it is fucked up and you're right about a lot of that but I meant not just specifically memory but all the stuff that comes with the aging process and while some might celebrate slowly 'breaking down' I don't think I would and if I could reverse it then I'd opt to do so. But I also think about the elderly who just get shoved into senior homes. Sure not everyone does but that is a very real possibility that one could face when getting older. It's unbelievably sad, how can you say it's not? I'm not saying "oh you poor fucked up creature," more so that getting old sucks and I will concede too that horrific was maybe a little dramatic but hey, that's me baby, lol, plus I'm not speaking some ideal but just sort objective-ish quality of life

I didn't mean to sound so mean and cold :(

Is that even legitimate question to be asking me love?

Getting old doesn't suck. Fuck you. Stop saying that.

Yeah it's a legitimate question. Why are you thinking about this shit? Why are you occupying your time with thinking about how terrible being a alive is? That's essentially what you're saying...Why are you not just living your life and staying healthy? Trying to overcome old age isn't a political objective.

Ultimately, you're relying on a really shitty stereotype of older adults and conflating getting illness with being old. The majority of people get old they die without any debilitating illness beyond wear and tear. Young people can have strokes, young people can lose limbs, young people can get dementia, young people can get heart disease. These illnesses aren't an exclusive thing for being a certain age.

People who are put in nursing homes are usually really ill and yeah, the nursing home system is bullshit, but that's not the experience of this homogenous "old people" you're talking about. Yeah, it's sad, but so is child slavery and environmental destruction.

Ok so I miss spoke please calm down because I'm not saying of that however I find the "wear and tear" part personally frightening. Plus I wasn't making formal pronouncement or whatever; I don't do that and if you look at my posts here these past few years that's true. I mean, between the ages of 30-69, sure and yeah young people get diseases and die too, as do children and babies and fetuses. I get that but even provided with the latest innovations in modern healthcare after 70, problems are an unfortunate reality and small problems can often be huge, life threatening problems.

Personal example, I use my shower time to practice things like singing, dancing, English, etc. and I slip and fall all the time and when I do I simply get up and say 'fuck Damnt.' I live alone. Now my great aunt is like 75 or some shit and recently one of my brothers called and told me she had fallen in the shower and laid there for nearly two days. That's the kind of stuff I mean and when I think about it I'm just like oh my gosh, like if that was me? How scary and horrible would that be? She's one of the only family "role models" too, very opinionated and independent and also lives alone. Thats just "wear and tear" and she doesn't have access to life alert or whatever types of systems.

I am not saying it's better they all die, I'm not saying there is no dignity or beauty in being old and I have looked up to a lot of badass ancient women in my life and seen then as crucial mentors. I was more or less saying me personally I think this plus there is some unfortunate realities to aging; I didn't mean to suggest or imply all that you're saying.

Plus I mean I'm pretty narcissistic and have anxiety, of course I see it this way.

I imagine people are wondering if you're the "workers are too stupid to do anything and need to be ordered around by engineers based on energy funny money" Scottian type of technocrat or "workers are too stupid to do anything and need to be ordered around by engineers based on energy funny money and also we stole our political strategy from the Brotherhood of Nod" RevLeft type of technocrat.

Yeah but that's what technocracy, as a conscious political movement, means. It started with the "Soviet of Engineers", Scott and so on, and is now divided between Technocracy, Incorporated, who are the "orthodox" technocrats, and a quixotic assortment of breakaway groups, from the more orthodox than the orthodox to those who heretically suggest a strategy of building capitalist businesses and taking over countries (those were active on RL a lot at one point).

Yeah, because we're finite. There's nothing you can do about that. There's nothing technology can do about that. You're never going to be able to stop people from getting old, getting ill and dying.

You know, I just got back from work (I'm a care support worker for people with physical and learning disabilities). One of my tasks today was to shower one of the residents. He has cerebral palsy. He's lived with it his entire life. Can't walk, can't use his hands effectively and has real difficulty communicating. He can talk, but most people can't understand him, which is obviously frustrating for him. Especially when it's compounded with having no independence to dress, wash or feed himself. He wears a wrap around pad because he's incontinent of faeces and has a super-pubic catheter because it's the most effective way to control his urine output. This guy is one of the funniest people I've ever had the fortune of meeting. He makes music, he sings in a choir, he has a girlfriend, he has a social life and he is currently really excited about being able to get his own flat with supported living so he can be part of a new community...And then you read shit written by healthy people with full control of their bodies complaining about shit that hasn't even happened yet. I'm sorry, but you're one of the fucking lucky ones. I don't find your whining (I know that's rude, but I can't see it as anything else) to be particularly edifying. In fact, I find it incredibly naive and premised on the privilege of being able-bodied. You have your whole life, your whole health and yet you preoccupy yourself with fantasies about being debilitated, while there are people who are out there trying to live their lives who are actually debilitated and who would love to have the ability just to hold a fucking fork for themselves.

The issue is not her age, the issue is that she's socially isolated and not properly supported. This is an indictment of her situation and of societies attitudes towards older adults and those with disabilities, not her age. Older adults and people with disabilities can and do live full lives without fear of being unnoticed in a shower for two days when they're given the support they need. If you don't want to end up in a shower for two days after falling, then change attitudes. Retreating into some nonsense about technology is not a solution to these problems.

I understand what you're saying, I don't disagree and while I understand why you're cross with me and perhaps deservedly so; but despite saying some shit that was wrong I haven't been belligerent with you and was trying to hear you out, honest. You didn't have to be so heavy handed about it is what I'm saying, that's not very nice either? You're better than that; yes, in retrospect what I said wasn't very nice but two wrongs don't make a right and I just now got into the medical field within the last year and I'm still learning and processing things, you know. While it doesn't make it right, it's not like i'm saying the sky is purple or something. In short, next time just ease up a bit; it's not like I'm some dickwad that won't listen to reason and I've proven I can admit when I'm wrong or said something stupid like a billions times here. Plus, my life isn't exactly roses, I have a whole laundry list of mental issues and stay heavily medicated. I'm not this epitome of fitness or nothing. I can't even function sometimes.

I don't even know how we got on this anyway since this has more I do with Transhumanism than Technocracy anyway. I'm not some technology fetishist.
