There's a novice competition near me in jan I quite fancy entering even tho I'd place dead last. Anyone ever done one before?

No. I'm not sure what I'd get out of it. You're in competition with yourself, so why go to a meet. Everyone who does powerlifting says they're in competition with themselves, so I guess there may be some reason to go that maybe I don't know about? I hear something about 'support' and whatever, not sure. Besides, as long as I keep my lifting in my home gym I'm always going to be the strongest in 1) my gym 2) my competitions.

Haha. Very good points. You are in competition with yourself first and foremost but maybe a meet can help you improve a bit. It also shows you what you can aim for I reckon

If you'r strong why not? A goal is pretty good for keeping motivation up for training.
Plus, You will definatly improve yourselfe.

What're your lifts? I used to go to a power making gym, but not because i was a power lifter, but they had a gym with tons of squat racks and cheap membership.
Those people are in another world. I assume that as a newcomer, you squat "raw"? Anyway, like Tim, I don't really see the point. I feel the same way about running.

Dead lift 170kg
Squat 140kg
Bench 92.5kg
Raw? I use a belt. That's it

My best results are from februar this year (weight about 104 kg):
Dead lift 210 kg
Squat 180 kg
Bench 135 kg
I use only a belt and magnesium.

Have increased my bench to 102.5kg. Delighted. However, I've hurt my back so can't squat or deadlift.
