Basically I live in a staunch conservative, middle class area of North London Suburbs. To my friends and family I have made my leftist political views known and most simply laugh in my face. They say things like, "middle England will never work under a Marxist economy" etc, and I simply am to uneducated and not confident enough in what Im saying to reply. I have come to this forum to approach similar minded yet more politically educated people and ask for your help to enlighten me and explain some creditable Marxist arguments I can use in the backstreets of Conservative Suburbia :confused: :)

Welcome :)
If you have political questions, you can ask them in the Learning forum. That's why it's there after all!
If you have questions about your account, don't hesitate to send me a PM or ask here.
What are your political ideas, if anything in particular? Having this cleared up for yourself will help you build your confidense so you can start to answer the retorts thrown at you :)

This "Marxism won't work here" is used extensively, and it means nothing except general ignorance.
Welcome camarada!

Marx critics tend not to have read Marx. Or even substantial reviews of Marx's work by other authors. They are parroting what capitalist economists say about Marxism. The person who's telling you that you are too uneducated probably can't summarize Adam Smith or David Ricardo, the early writers considered the most "anti-Marxian" (although both died before Marx wrote anything).
Sometimes a good way to answer such people is to ask them to state why Marxian ideas won't work in "middle England" (as opposed to just "England"), then what they think will work and why. The Socratic method, if you please. For that matter, Marxist economists accept a number of things Smith or Ricardo proposed, such as the law of diminishing returns when it comes to applying resources. They're just opposed to putting the economy on a commodity market as capitalism does.
But "top of the day" to you in any event. For me, convincing those who are mesmerized by the capitalists usually goes over like fireworks in a wet snowstorm
