Yea, the fact that homophobes are trying to bar same-sex marriages is sickening. I know people that agree with me but are afraid to say so because they don't want to be considered gay...the cowards! Just because I am a heterosexual, doesn't mean I can't fight for the rights of homosexuals to be happy and love freely.

I wrote an anti- homophobic article for my school newspaper, and addressed that exact issue. It didn't get printed, though. It wasn't "censorship" or anything (I'm one of the assistant editors, and it's almost entirely student- run. Plus, we printed my "Capitalism vs. Democracy" article which I posted somewhere or another on che- lives). I think it had more to do with the amount of space available, and we wanted to let everybody who submitted an article have it printed, or something. Next issue, though.

Yep, trust me it's real hard sticking up for homosexuals, especially in a mostly anti-homosexual society...

Here in Toronto, ppl are very accepting. Even in legislation, it was passed that same-sex marriage is allowed. I think personally this gov't made a great decision in that.

I am totally in support of equil rights for homosexuals, and have always been open in this. It is sad to note, like you suggest, that some people are afraid to express their true oppinion.

it goes back to that same old moral self-righteousness bullshit once again. Some people think they are so much better and decent than others just because they believe something written in some book (ie bible), and that they are going to heaven and that homosexual people are doomed to hell. It is christian fundamentalism- used to persecute and ostracise. Such hypocrisy. So much for freedom and liberty.

I'm for same-sex marriages. I'm straight. I like to be with women and not men. I am not a homophobe. But if I said this anywhere but here, I would probably get flamed and be barred as a 'queer'. Like who cares if a same-sex couple wants to get married! Is it really gonna effect your unimportant life THAT much! Probably not. God, people just need to realise the differences in people, and just GIVE IT A REST!

You hear it everywhere. You probably say it yourself. “Fag”. “Homo”. “That’s so gay”. Have you ever stopped to think about what you’re implying, though? Homophobia is one of the deepest prejudices affecting our generation. A person rarely goes one day without hearing something homophobic escape from their own lips or the lips of a peer. Sometimes, this homophobia leads to violence against homosexuals. What’s the root of this homophobia, though?
The term “gay” has become somewhat synonymous with “stupid” or “uncool” when being used as an insult. Some may say that the use of the term in this context isn’t homophobic, but let’s take a look at what it implies. To say that the term “gay” means the same thing as the term “stupid” is to say that “gay people are stupid [translation: inferior].” Guess who else thought homosexuals were inferior. That’s right, Mr. Hitler, the overseer of the most massive genocide in human history. How is implying the inferiority of homosexuals any different than implying the inferiority of women, people of colour, or those with disabilities? It isn’t.
Watching homophobes trying to defend their beliefs is actually pretty funny, chiefly because of their absence of a real reason for their homophobia. Try it sometime, and you’ll get responses like “it’s gross” or “it’s just wrong” or, my all- time favourite, “YOU’RE GAY!” Such is the tactic of those defending a completely illogical belief: ‘insult the other guy; after all, he’s a fag!’ Who says it’s ‘gross’? Who made these homophobes the kings of what is and isn’t ‘gross’? What’s to say that being gay is wrong? The Bible? Well, friends, the Bible is dripping with rules that we wouldn’t dare consider carrying out. For example, if a woman has sex before she’s married; the men of the town take her to the door of her father’s house and stone her to death (passage begins at Deuteronomy 22:13). I wonder how many homophobes would be interested in universally applying this rule. The most logical of all homophobic arguments really isn’t all that logical in it at all. Saying something to the effect of, “Being gay is wrong because gay people can’t have children,” is a commonly- used tactic of homophobes. It really doesn’t make much sense when applied universally, though. There are plenty of heterosexual couples who either cannot or chose not to produce children. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. The ability to produce children is most definitely not a requirement for a ‘good’ or ‘right’ relationship. See, there’s really not much logic to homophobic claims.
Some of you are probably thinking something to the effect of “Is this guy gay?” Well, I’m not. Surprised? Don’t be. It’s very possible to not be a homophobe and, in fact, be a heterosexual. This concept isn’t all that popular among our society, especially the youth. Next time something happens that you don’t like, instead of saying “that’s gay”, try thinking of another adjective, like, “unfavourable” or “ridiculous”. Otherwise, you might come off as a major homophobe.

recently some boy in my school pulled another boy. everybody is saying that its so gross and just "gay". when i stuck up for him and said that it isnt "gross" and that it was perfectly fine, they replied: "are you gay too".

its sad that stupidity has once again displayed itself through the english language. What can be done about it? Who knows, people will always find some stereotype, even after homosexuals are treated as equals...

Anyone ever watch the movie 'Porky's' before? It's real old, probably made in the early 60s. Anyways, the teens in that movie kept referring to the african american guy as a 'nigger', and talking really low about him.

You still find that today in rare instances, but its somewhat toned down. Over time, i think that this stigmatization over homosexuals will also become less and less common. That is until western society finds another group of people to pick on.

Also, this is interesting. I heard a quote by Ghandi, he said something to the effect of (i don't remember the exact quote) "I like you're Christ, but I don't like you christians. You christians are nothing like your christ."
