Hello. I have, in the past year, become more interested in getting involved with leftist movements and communities. Thus why I am here. Though I am uncertain how long I plan to stay, I am eager to discuss issues of economic and social justice, as well as methods of collective action.
So, a little bit about what I believe specifically. In leftist terminology, I would probably be most accurately described as a Marxist, believing that the power an productivity of society comes from the working class, and that creating a more just system must not only involve but be led by that class. I believe that capitalism results in immense poverty, war, and economic slumps... it is these problems that lead people eventually to revolt.
If I were to me more specific, I might be tempted to call myself a Leninist, in the sense that I believe it is the duty of a socialist organization (necessarily a minority in society) to propose a productive and meaningful way forward towards a just society after/during said revolt... though the democratic thrust of socialism MUST come from the people as a whole, the socialists cannot dictate anything.
However I have been continuing my reading and researching. So my opinion on this matter might come to change in the future.
I have always been sympathetic to socialist ideas since I was a child, but I never really understood them. It has only been in the past year (my senior year at college) that I took a more deep look at socialist literature (including modern and current literature), and I have now become convinced that socialism--as a political movement, revolutionary process, and hypothetical state of affairs--is the best way towards a more just, equal, and free world.
... but I am sure you all knew that already.
I look forward to sharing in discussion. The key to emancipation, from involuntary servitude and toil in the name of profit, is solidarity with each-other in our common plight. So thus I join this forum for now.
