There was a vote today in Congress to supposedly defund Planned Parenthood.

I understand many leftists have critical views of Planned Parenthood, whether it be from methodology to structure. I don't know anything about it, so I am seeking your commentary on the topic.

Also any insight on NGOs.

I don't really see what there is to be critical of Planned Parenthood of. It's an NGO and it has its limits, sure, but it's not a revolutionary organization. For a lot of people (men and women alike) they're the only way to get access to healthcare.

I mean why bother critiquing it is that really worth our time

if the answer to the question "but what are you doing to guarantee essential healthcare to women" is "nothing" find something else to critique, preferably the assholes who try to defund them...

I don't know but the learning forum is a good place for such questions.

Just because I despise public education doesn't mean that it should be defunded.

Just because I despise public education doesn't mean that it should be defunded.I don't think private education is specifically better, but I've never had it either. I just really don't like teachers these days.

Anyways, Planned Parenthood is restricted by the state. Meaning there's a limit of what they can do because of that, but I don't wanna get into that because someone will probably be banned at the end. Still, it's not worth critiquing. I need my free condoms. lol

Here's something from the RCP affiliate Stop Patriarchy that touches on their (Planned Parenthood) activist spinelessness:

I've never really encountered these people. Are you sure?
Planned Parenthood's biggest flaws are generally products of the institutions and organizations which seek to dismantle and defund it.

In general, it offers essential services to people in need. It's not, like, a revolutionary organization or something, but I don't see any meaningful value in a critique. Or anything to critique on Planned Parenthood's part, honestly.

I don't have much of an opinion on them. On one hand, they are doing a lot of good while on the other, it's not enough.

But this isn't a revolutionary organization we're talking about so what should we expect?
