These sites suck but whatever. Many of us are up for review and they're kinda cut-happy. It's a thing. I've known and known of a few disabled people who've been completely cut off from both disability and food stamps. If that happens you're supposed to get a lawyer. While living on less than a grand a month. Likely without a car. While crippled and without the money for food or housing. Yep.

This is, of course, nothing new, as we know.

"It's welfare reform 2.0. It is pretty exciting," says Rep. Tim Huelskamp, R-Kan., one lawmaker who has been pushing to chop $40 billion from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, during the next 10 years. "I think it is a very compassionate approach, targeting and reforming food stamps from being a way of life."http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2013/09/19/house-to-vote-on-cutting-40-billion-in-food-stamps

lol wow k

Anyway, I know America is a sleazy, hateful, cruel place that prizes social darwinism over mutual aid, but come on. Some of the people on aid are paralyzed from the neck down or so full of the PTSDs that working is way too much and we can't even. It's already incredibly hard to wring any kind of assistance out of these bureaucrat fucks, and even when you're on their books, they'll often, totally at random, fuck up and deny you services you qualify for. It's happened to me a number of times and I've ended up going without food for months, other than the food I was able to "find." A lot of people aren't aware, but parts of the social security machinery are actually privatized and withhold information from people. I've had the private company that controls the front end of SS online change my name in their books so I couldn't access anything. Oh, and good luck trying to ever talk to them. You have to do everything but send them a blood sample to prove it's you.

if you're disabled and don't have some kind of non-governmental support network in this country you're basically expected to just die on the street. That's how much Americans hate us, and it is hatred. They see us as moochers because we're physically or psychologically incapable of work. They suspect us of being con artists. They click their tongues and say it's the fault of the "welfare queens" that this is happening to us, as if they exist in any relevant number. As if a paltry 700-1k or so a month is worth the part time job of dealing with functionally brain dead bureaucrats, the threat of prison for committing fraud, and the stigma of being on welfare. Yeah. That makes total sense. Couldn't possibly be some kind of racist Reaganite propaganda. Couldn't possibly be the full-blown morons who hate the poor doing this to us because we're expendable in their quest for profit and power. Nope.

So yeah, America's going to have a few more homeless on their hands soon, and quite a few of those homeless will likely be starving to death or dying of exposure over the next year, probably completely undocumented. First world problems amirite.

I'm assuming they'll get social security back on track in the next couple of years, after a round of poor, disabled, and elderly people die off or at least suffer some pretty ugly hardship. In the meantime I'm sure the richest country on earth or whatever will find something super great to moralize about like a bad titty that is wrong or a gay who think he people while millions can't get the medicine they need to live.

Oh, and as an aside, we aren't allowed to really save money for something like this. The government docks us if we have more than a couple grand, so it's not like people can be judicious and save up for an emergency. It's going to be a fuck of a ride.

To any fellow cripples/olds/turbopoors: fill as many of your scripts as you can now. Say you're going on vacation if you have to. Gotta get your shit on lock. Gotta do this shit real poor people style, get real grubby.

Living with next to nothing protips:

-Oatmeal is disgusting but lasts forever. Same goes for other grains. Get as many cheap dry grains as you can. Remember to buy/"find" some flavoring somewhere because eating will soon turn into a chore. Chocolate chips work really well for this. You'll also need a multivatimin probably, but those are expensive and hard to "find." Canned goods are nice but expensive. Save those to treat yourself if you can afford them.

-Buy the cheapest shit car you can find if you're going to lose housing if you can. 500 is two months' rent in a lot of places for welfare peoples which can buy you a barely-running car. Drive that car to a walmart parking lot. They let you sleep there overnight. Bonus: free security!

-Community colleges offer free showers for students. It's generally easy to pass as a student.

-If you're a smoker buy rollies, an ecig, or a pipe. Loose tobacco lasts longer and is way cheaper. Same with ecigs. Pipe smoke is disgusting and you're not supposed to inhale it (inhale it anyway, who cares, we're poor), but it lasts forever too, and as a bonus you don't need papers. Another upside is similar to the grains: you'll get so sick of it you'll just fucking stop smoking.

-If you have a pet it's perfectly fine to feed them whatever you're eating. Just brush their teeth. They'll love it (the food, not the tooth brush)! Extreme poverty can be like a fun adventure for them as long as you make sure to take care of them.

-I have no fucking idea what to do if you have kids holy shit dude.

-You need boots. Combat boots are nice and look rad as fuck but cowboy boots are just super comfortable and more reliable for what you need. Either way, you need boots. Shoes just blow and fall apart and don't protect your shit and you can't stomp on stuff like with boots.

-You're going to have to sell shit. Only accept cash. Put the cash in a plastic bag in your boot. Don't sell your books. Your books will bring in like no money and they're probably all you're going to have to keep your mind occupied. Books are the best escape. The bad ones double as toilet paper. If you have no books go to the library. Live at the library. They have toilet paper that is probably not made out of books.

-Libraries, community colleges, etc. don't guard their toilet paper/soap/towels like gas stations do. Invest in a backpack.

-You can still get laid easily, especially if you still have some kind of housing. Even if you don't, just say you can't host. Just shower like normal, wash your clothes, and use hookup sites on the library computer. the dudes on adam4adam ain't care. they just wanna get their nut.

-Washing your clothes might seem impossible to a civilized person like yourself at first, but it's really very simple. "Find" a bucket and a stick. "Find" some detergent. Combine detergent and stinky-ass clothes with water. Mix with stick. You don't even need a clothesline, just hang the clothes wherever, like on a fence or something.

-If you are homeless, you might want to be armed. A knife is fine but a boxcutter is something that can be explained away maybe (probably not). Box cutters are really great at self defense and are easier to "find." People get real scared when you wave around a box cutter and scream crazy shit at them so you don't even have to stick anyone probably!

-A really good way to panhandle is to not wear your shoes. That shit really freaks people out. You might get worms or something though. Panhandling can be hard depending on where you live. I've lived in cities where people treat panhandlers like they have some kind of disease (whether or not we actually do) and in others where people are apathetic. Be aware of the laws in your area; in some cities it is illegal.

-For the homeless: https://www.couchsurfing.com/

-GET A BIG FUCKING COAT FROM MILITARY SURPLUS or Goodwill or some shit. Military stuff is the BEST. It's comfortable, durable, and usually comes with all kinds of great options like rain hoods, backup buttons for when your zipper breaks, and deep pockets. They make EXCELLENT blankets and if you are couch surfing or whatever you are not going to want to lug a bunch of shit around. Just be sure to get a size or so bigger than what you need and you're set.

If anyone has any other survival tips for our soon-to-be turbo-poors just post them here I guess. Otherwise I guess this is a thread about disabled Americans getting shafted yet again. It's nothing new. If you're disabled and you have anything to complain about this is probs a good place for it.

OH, and don't be alarmed if you are disabled. I also know people who weren't removed from SSI/SSDI, so we're probably ok. 20% is huge but we still have the odds on our side. Don't freak out, just be ready. Regardless, there's no way the senate is going to let social security fail. I mean, us poors are way left compared to the rest of the US. I was just talking with my crippled up homies in the housing here and they're all pretty far left for Americans, regardless of education. There'd be a goddamn revolution and they'd end up killing all of us and that wouldn't be very nice for the proper suit-and-tie people to read about in the papers.

Anyway, thanks Obama~~~

Anyway, thanks Obama~~~

Why thanks to him? Thank to people who are behind him and who rule him. Thank to bourgeoisie for that.

It's just a dumb catchphrase. It's usually used ironically, as it was here.

I should have used a sarcasm tag for people not in the US.

As someone living on Social Security Disability, it does seem that we live in a society that hates the disabled, even more so the further to the right a person is.

The capitalist ethos is teaching people to get ahead by pushing others behind, so those most easy to push behind also do get pushed furthest back too. They do try to control and produce a more selfish social culture in part because it also destroys working class unity. This is also why racism is also used as a tool of capitalist control of society. Of course given the results of an economic system that rewards most the most sociopathic, there are wealthy who also actually do think fully of a disposable workforce; that is where euthanasia could be applied to those who no longer are of "economic value" to them.

I don't see a Nazi German style of ideology regarding disabled persons in the USA. If going over to cynicism in lieu of analysis we will tend to forget that disabled people were really killed outright by government functionaries in Hitler's state. We have our own forms of devaluing human life, a good example being the Tuskegee syphilis experiments in 1932-1972. But the American style has mostly favored a laissez-faire attitude: "The family" will care for the disabled so the government doesn't have to.

Why I think this matters is that laissez-faire social Darwinism is much harder to defeat on the stage of world opinion than is eugenics and euthanisia. Almost everyone condemns the latter while accepting the former because they're persuaded the American family is "strong" and "loving," perfectly able to care for its own. Which often isn't true of course, but the ruling class need only sell the image.

Of course, no one "hates" the disabled. The US state does not "hate" the disabled in vein that it hates unionization, in vein that it hates Left radicalism, and so on. There is no deliberate offensive against the disabled, merely the inability for us to defend the gains of the disabled.

It is simply that American capital amply does not care about the disabled. Why would it? Why should there be confusion here? We know from Marx that the general tendency of capital is to bring the worker to the level of destitution. Never forget that the extensive social programs, welfare, and so on were FOUGHT FOR, not wrought from the benevolence of the state but conceded at gunpoint. The question is how to correctly defend these gains against the onslaught of capital today.
