View Full Version : Lenin's ideas on freedom of speech in the dictatorship of the proletariat

Such as:
"For the workers’ and peasants’ government, freedom of the press means liberation of the press from capitalist oppression, and public ownership of paper mills and printing presses; equal right for public groups of a certain size (say, numbering 10,000) to a fair share of newsprint stocks and a corresponding quantity of printers’ labour."
Do you believe this would be a viable path towards promoting freedom of the speech and press, and equality thereof, in the dictatorship of the proletariat?

Paper is being phased out gradually. Perhaps this would have been an ideal method as little as 30+ years ago, but now we have social media websites where a single post, with a few shares and hashtags can reach countless numbers of people. The concern now then is ensuring that everyone can - if they choose - make a profile, an account, or a page, and have their say on it. That perhaps would mean finding a way to bring WIFI to all parts of the world, and at least one communal computer device with public access. I feel like this will happen in all due time, anyway.

Great post.
With the invention of social media and other technological advances, we have all become journalists in a way. It's the ordinary people that are always on hand when something happens and now they all have a way to publish what they see or find. This has aldo made censorship, very very difficult.
I also agree that it appears to be happening by it's own accord.
Reminds me of when Bin Laden was killed, the first posts were by a local guy who was complaining of helicopters clattering over head and a large bang. BBC News had an article about him, I believe he was pretty much describing the whole event without knowledge of what it was.
