So I recently was directed here after having inquires on other sites trying to find out information about my grandfather. I totally forgot I was addicted to this site when I was in high school. I had to jump through a few hoops getting access to my old email to get access to reset the pw on this account but I finally did it.
So the last time I was here was in 2008. I'm currently expecting my second child and have had a crazy life since last logged in.
Now about my grandfather..
The story goes, he was going to be hanged for being a communist supporter during the 30s in Spain. He hid on a ship and lucked out that it went to America. Being arrested when he was found on board and held on bond before they handed him over to the US authorities. He had to prove he was useful, became a chef. A pretty astounding chef. But he never made it a secret that he was a communist to his family and how they shouldn't fall prey to the disgusting system they had to live in. He died in 1994 after having a stroke. I never really got to spend much time with my grandfather. I used a few online sources, got the boat manifest that showed he was on bond, got his impromptu immigration paperwork, and when I started to dig deeper my mother gave me his personal belongings and showed me his ashes.
Last time I was here, I was enraged with politics and my local government. I fear I've grown apathetic as I've grown older. I'm happy to find this board again, and would love to be a part of the community again.
