How about a picture of a man who speaks about Rastafarianism?

Very nice, canikickit. I'm a major Big Youth fan myself.

Marcus Mosiah Garvey, though not a Rasta himself, did prophesize the coming of "a Black King" unto Africa. Inspired the founders of the Rastafarian movement through his crusades for black nationalism.
Said by Garvey, a decade before Selassie's coronation:
"Look to Africa for the crowning of a Black King; he shall be the Redeemer."

Haile Selassie I, Emperor of Ethiopia and a prophet of Jah (God, if you didn't know --- Jah is a shortened form of "Jehovah") in the Rastafarian faith.

Last I checked, werent most of us against nationalism in any form, and definately against any sort of holy monarch? I mean, this kinda stuff is about as reactionary as it gets, this guy seems like an Ethiopian version of an Egyption Pharoh to me.

Maybe, but he is also part of an established religion, and some of us just choose to practice that religion. The man himself may be "reactionary" to you and to others, but he is only a piece of a much larger set of spiritual beliefs.

do you have to be black to be a rastafarian? i know it's a back-to-africa movement and they believe in god, but is there such thing as a strictly spiritual rastafarian? i like the lifestyle too, the vegetarianism, spirituality, social/family orientation. some christian friends were like "do buddhism" but that seems like a sort of solitary, aloof, lonely practice even though you're supposed to be one with everything.

You most certainly don't have to be black, though there are some who would say otherwise. It's a religion about equality, and whites are very much accepted...
...but there are a few branches where they aren't. Watch out for that.

H.I.M. means :
His Imperial Majesty
And like i've said before...Selassie was not some good person. He was a corrupt leader. Can you blame Marcus Garvey for frowning upon him? nope.

At first I thought HIM was referring to the Finnish band HIM.

That's a pretty weak defense. I'm with MM, how can any leftist support a holy monarch, or any religion revolving around one?
ATP: Why do you feel the need to attatch yourself to an archaic supersticion because you like a couple parts of the culture it represents?
