I actually think the rafiq vs phoenixash derailments are slightly more interesting to read than the usual shitty one-liners from people

Rafiq types huge serious articles that PA I think just glances at occasionally without reading in full
I enjoy their discussions. It gets really fucking annoying though when Rafiq's minions come in and kowtow to their infallible master.

He ain't got no minions, just avid followers, fans, and personality cult members.

I don't usually agree with PA but I don't think its fair to say that his disagreements with Rafiq are based off of misreadings.

I'm pretty sure we're all guilty of this though, and you're right, but context. Sometimes there's too much content to go through, but this massive amount of content is also good

contrary to some people's terrible opinions giant walls of text not even broken into a quote and reply format are the worst thing since yellow jackets and wasps

They're both equally appalling, it's not the format so much as the intent behind them. Not specifically these two but anyone who gets into these loops regularly. It's really odd, you can tell that neither side is actually reading the opposing posts, just skimming, harvesting crop for their own additional text-siege which they probably started writing before their opponent even posted a response. Each person is only interested in generating blocks of text with the hope that this block of text, this fortress of words which no one will ever read, will finally put an end to the other person's blocks of text and we can all finally get back to the regular business of not talking at all.

Yeah from like the comments section of a yahoo news article hah. Kinda silly for a discussion site though. Everyone complains about one liners making discussion impossible, but the moment you post an entire paragraph people come out of the woodwork to intentionally misrepresent it in the craziest ways. Simply for the opportunity to get up on their own soap box, presumably so you can do the same to them. I'd maybe like to spend the evening punching myself in the genitals instead, you know?

Surely yellowjackets are wasps.
Or is it just me that doesn't distinguish between the two as he runs screaming like an infant?
Anyway, the only thing more ridiculous than RevLeft drama llamas are threads decrying drama llamas and posts ironically distancing the poster from both.

walls of text not even broken up by quote replies are bad, it doesn't matter what other unrelated stuff you bring up

I think the community here is actually way too hostile to critical thinking for discussions to take place, aside from people who already agree with you, with the possible exception of new people who haven't found a niche yet and so don't have their walls up. You either regurgitate what you read in a book or else you spend the rest of the thread arguing with people over nothing because they can't fit your position into one of the books they've read. Either way no actual discussion takes place. Drama is as close as it gets here, because that's the only instance where people are willing to think critically. But even then it's only to get more ammunition for future book-regurgitations.

Vitriolic argument has always been a feature of this place, but I think in the last year it's reached its worse because the subjects of the arguments are so trivial and uninteresting. Phoenix gets a kick out of beating trivial disputes into the ground for 10+ pages. I suppose Rafiq has some similar drive, though he's always been a mystery to me. It also doesn't help that this entire place has been more dead than ever before over the past 10 or so months.

And then there are these users here who frequently enough to be annoying de-orbit from their little bubbles of puritanical innocence to come and have very awkward tantrums in public and moan on from their red curtain wacko-land about things like 'hostility' and 'drama' like a consumer complaint about a spa experience.
I am just kidding you're pretty great .

I mean before the whole mega-evolutions Charizard was a pretty mediocre OU pokemon - and even still I'd prefer Tyranitar to Charizard since it's probably better to use the mega evolution on another pokemon.

I find it to be entertaining. It's like watching boxing or something only it's intelligent discussion instead of violence.

You might expect that preferring Charizard to Tyranitar would imply preferring Charizard to Tyranitar as Pokémon, rather than as lists of numbers. Times tables play a different role in Pokémon. Anti-revisionism in a Pokémon context would probably also recall remembering that Charizard could hardly be an OU Pokemon of any sort before multiplayer existed there.

Well pokemon anti-revisionism is reactionary. Also the game mechanics prior to 4th gen were ridiculous - why the hell would fire punch be a special attack and not a physical one, just because it does fire damage?
Sibotic
24th July 2015, 00:53
The damage is supposed to be inflicted by the fire rather than specifically by the punch, I think, otherwise it would be a fighting-type attack and such. That's allowable, in a sense. At a certain point it became weird when biting was dark but hyper fanging was not, whatever that means. Some dour rats, that.

Well, there are better examples of it being absurd - bite for instance was based off of the pokemon's special attack but ghost ball was based off of the pokemon's physical attack.
