A bit late (it starts in 2 days) but is are any fellow RevLefters coming to this event? It's a 5-day conference on Marxism with debates, meetings and talks on a variety of theoretical and current affairs-related topics. I'll be there on the Saturday!

I want to sell elephant ears and funnel cakes at a Marxist festival. Maybe that my true calling

I know; I'm not too optimistic about that, but I've asked about it and apparently it isn't just the "SWP line," and people come from all different organisations and with different ideas. Hopefully the SWP's awful politics won't get in the way too much.

Most big meetings will have SWP posters plastered on the walls, will mention joining the SWP at the end, and every big meeting you leave, you will be asked to join the SWP. Any arranged picnics will be for SWP members, I imagine you are encouraged to join if you use their accommodation provided. There will be no recruiters from other organisations and unlike actual 'festivals', all attendants are there at the discretion of the SWP. The different speakers are there just as cover to appear more open than they actually are.

That's not what they implied when emailing me, but obviously they wouldn't want to look too sectarian, so...huh. Well I hope it's still halfway decent and interesting, and that I meet people who don't have totally asinine politics.

I would rather shit on my own floor than support this event and this party.

As a SWPer once admitted 'Any revolutionary knows that lying is sometimes justified. The problem is who is being lied to.'
Let us know how it went and your experience.

It's also worth noting that whereas in the past Marxism might have had some sort of diversity amongst speakers, most half-way decent people are now refusing to attend on account of the SWP.
