How to deal with the racists you know?

So a friend of mine has recently alerted me to the fact that his parents are extremely racist. And by extremely racist, he means very, very, racist. As in, they got in a screaming match with some hispanic people at the beach after telling them to "go back over the border to Cuba."

Now, I say this because I'd like to know how to deal with those around you that express reactionary thoughts on a daily basis. Do you challenge them or just move on?

You have to pick your battles. It depends on the situation, the person, your relationship to them. Most people nowadays seem to be "colorblind" racists who point to disproportionate crime rates and poverty rates as evidence of an inherent capacity for failure. It's simple to confront that kind of racism by creating a simple logical dichotomy: you either think non-white populations are inherently born with those traits (note: if someone admits to this, there's little hope in doing anything but shaming them), or you acknowledge that social environment creates these behavioral patterns. If you choose the latter, there is no choice but to lay the fault at the feet of an entire history of racist oppression.

Some pre-set quips are easy to come to mind to combat everyday racism. Like "we'll leave your country when your government leaves ours". There's (faint) hope there they'll confront the reality that the problem is systemic and history doesn't start with the crossing of a border.

Okay but honestly this is some next level shit. Cubans usually get the least hate because we came here "for freedom and liberty and to suck Lady Liberty's tities USA USA USA!". Im guessing they live in Miami. Not only are they racist they sound stupid. What I usually do is when people tell me they hate cubans I tell them im cuban (I am). Racism is stupid so its stupidly easy to break, most neo nazis leave nazism bc they met a nice black guy. It sounds stupid but its true. Just say something like ohh Im Hispanic or do some psychology research and not listen to idiots like me on revleft.
